Undercut Problem

Undercut Problem

Hello everyone! I have a problem with a 3-axis cutter. I would like to make a very simple processing, a sort of undercut. To understand this, I have my zero point set in (0,0,0) (x, y, z). The piece goes down in height (0,0, -5) and this side must not be worked. Then the piece continues: (0, -5, -5) (0, -5, -6) (0, -5, -7) I do not know if I have explained myself, but it is similar to an edge, a step, an edge. Here, every time I try the tool I enter the piece. Does not recognize the step! Although I always give it the boundary surface. How can I do?

Hi @Anonymous,

Welcome to Autodesk Community!

Is it possible for you to share the part? You can send it using private message if you don't want to disclose it on public forum.

Thank You

Ok, please see the attachment.

In image 1, there is the part. As you can see, there is a little edge that mustn't be worked. Only the part in the undercut section.

In image 2, there is the machined part. As you can see, my tool enter into the part, also if i put the edge as limit surface.

How can i set the tool entrance by lateral side?

Hi @Anonymous,

It seems it is gouging while entering and exiting toolpath i.e. while lead-in/out. If you have done it with Z level finish with undercut option or isoline strategy, it provides you an ability to set lead-in/out in leads tab. Have you set them? If you can send fm file, that will be helpful.

Thank You.

Fm file means saved part in FeatureCAM. It is always saved as .fm

Hi @Anonymous,

I too found very difficult to adjust lead in/lead out so that it shouldn’t gouge the part. I also created an Isoline toolpath by creating a new surface but that was also not successful. Hence I created a toolpath feature of your Z level finish by simply right clicking for your existing toolpath in operation list and edited those links in toolpath feature which were gouging in the part.

However, it should be possible to change lead/links if they are colliding with the part. I will check if I find any request about it.

If my post answers your query, please click on 'Accept as solution' button.

Thank You.
