Guys, this is frustrating!
I do not like to use the ribbon, so went back to the original toolbars and configured my screen
as I wanted.
Then, just to move some things around in the toolbar, I've managed to move the "New Setup " button
into oblivion!
I cannot find it anywhere, and the one that is available as a selection is only good for modifying the
existing and active setup.
a: Is there a way that I can get the New Setup button back?
b: What is the reason behind the elimination of the "New Setup" from the old way?
Grrr.....!
Hi @acad-caveman, please try to see this VIDEO, hoping it will help you.
Regards
Gabriele...
Sorry, but that is the wrong Setups button!
At least on my machine ( 2020.2.2.0009 ) that brings up the incorrect "Setups" button!
What you're showing is the SETUPS - (establish fixturing for a setup ), which is essentially a method
to edit only an existing setup.
The button I am after is the "NEW SETUP", which can be found under Manufacturing -> Setups ( create a new setup )
Mathias
Yes, if you are using the ribbon that is the New Setup.
I however don't much care for the ribbon and use the standard toolbars instead.
On the toolbars however there is ( apparently ) no way to add a "New Setup" button.
I've had it available from the original install, but while trying to move it
to another toolbar, I've managed to give it the Avadra Kedavra curse instead.
Hey, caveman.
I have a workaround for you. You can get the New Setup command back with a keyboard shortcut. Tried that? Didn't work? Here's the trick: go back to the Ribbon interface and create the keyboard shortcut there. When you return to the Toolbar interface, the keyboard shortcut will work. I have attached a video showing you how to do this.
Chris
Yes, that does work for a keyboard shortcut.
But!!!
Now here is another curiosity!
If you are in the ribbon mode, now you don't have the ability to modify an existing setup using the ribbon!
IOW,
IF the UI is in RIBBON mode, then clicking on SETUPS means "New Setup"
IF the UI is in TOOLBAR mode, then clicking on SETUPS means "Modify Existing Setup"
acad-caveman,
Yes, that is a fair point. With the ribbon, the ribbon button creates a new setup, and to edit a setup, you either right-click or double-click the setup in the Part View. (Or select it and hit the Properties button, but I've never known anybody to work that way.) When you think about it, though, that's also how features have always worked, so I can live with it.
Trust me, I have been using FeatureCAM since 2000, so using the Ribbon was an adjustment, but I do like working with it now.
Take care.
Mehh.. I think the ribbon from Microsoft was a change looking for a purpose.
I don't see much ( if any ) benefit from it at all, specially not when a specific application became
nothing but Ribbon.
At least some apps ( most notably for me FC and ACAD ) still allows the switch back to the caveman (😉) method.
