Inventor Crashes When Updating Factory Assets

Hello,

We do most of our editing of factory layouts within AutoCAD Architecture (2D) and we can edit assets, using factory properties, in there without too much issue. We can then sync this with inventor and again this generally opens up fine.

However my problems begin if I spot something in inventor and try to edit the asset within inventor, again using factory properties. The asset will update on screen and then crash. This happens with our own assets and also the system assets so for that reason I don't think the issue is with our in house assets.

I have uploaded a screencast of the issue. As I say this issue isn't isolated to any one asset it is all of them, I used a system asset as this is something we can be sure should work (and does when changing in AutoCAD)

I've sent numerous crash reports to the devs but not yet got a fix. This has been happening for months now and it's becoming quite frustrating to say the least.

Any suggestions anyone has would be much appreciated

Hi @Josh_Hudson97 ,

We have internal ticket INVGEN-58908 tracking this issue. And we are currently investigating, please stay tuned.

As I watched the video, (very clear btw), the Solidworks PDM is notifying new file added to vault. Are you using a project folder that is syncing with Solidworks PDM? How about working in a newly created project? Thank you.

Hi @liqinomickey,

Thanks for reply! Yes we're using a project in Solidworks PDM, I did think it might have had something to do with PDM myself at first but I have tested this with a local project, on my C:Drive, and get the same result.

Any progress on this?

When I change factory properties on an asset, inventor crashes.

Sometimes I can make a change a few times, sometimes 1 time until Inventor crashes.

See the attached video.

@Lennart_Losjo This still happens on mine now. I have found if I reset my inventor using. "Inventor Reset Utility" it sorts the issue out again. The downside is you then have to reimport settings.

@MariaManuela , thank you for asking! We are currently working on the fix for Factory Design Utility 2022 update, if everything goes well, it could be available in the next update and let us know if there's still problem when you install the latest update later on.

@LishuangLu @liqinomickey

Would I be correct in thinking this has been resolved under INVGEN-58909? (I know INVGEN-58908 was mentioned up this thread but issue sounds the same and it's the next number in the list presumably)

Or was this a different issue?

Thank you for the quick feedback, @Josh_Hudson97 !

Is that the same workflow as previous you reported to INVGEN-58908? The crash went into a new bucket, we'll ask team to investigate if it is a new issue or a different one. Please stay tuned.

Thanks,

-Lisa

Hi @LishuangLu,

Yeah it was the same workflow as previous (it had been working for a while after the update so it's still not failing every time) so it's hard to pin point exactly what does it from a user side of things. Hopefully my crash report will help I added some details which will hopefully assist you guys 🤞

This Problem also exists in the 2021 version, after a new installation it disappeared.
