Button Mapping/Default Socket Weld Unions and Welds

I cannot figure out how to set the default socket weld union to a coupling in Revit using fabrication parts. I was able to get it to work prior to creating welds which are necessary for gaps, BOM etc. Getting the welds to work I had to make all pipes and fittings male and the welds as female. The issue I'm running into is when I "Optimize Lengths" it inserts a weld instead of the coupling(including 2 welds) at each specified length.

Is there anything I can do in button mapping or scripts to call out what it should use first for a coupling similar to RedILTee? Is there a way to fix it with connection or connectivity types? Revit is pretty fussy when it comes to Connectivity...

I've attached my current button mapping for the service, and would be happy to add any more info that would help out.

Thanks in advance for help.

Is there a reason you need to put the weld itm in there?  Why don't you use the connector breakpoints to get you the gap you are looking for?

I'd rather have it work correctly showing the weld gaps and symbols based on our weld specifications than editing every part and pipe in our library. There's also the added estimation benefit and weld mapping we may be using Fabrication parts in Revit for in the future. There may be issues with incorrect weld gaps on our .pcf export/import to Acorn-HGG pipe cutter as well.

Hello @Anonymous ,

I'll be happy to help! The best way to narrow down where the issue is, is if you can test this with your service within Fabrication CADmep using a design line. If Design Line fills correctly, then we are seeing Revit & the add-in act incorrectly. If Design Line does not work, we may be seeing an issue with settings in the service, and I'll be happy to take a look at a copy of it to see if we can narrow down what needs changing!

Hello @Anonymous ,

I wanted to check in and see if you were able to test this within Fabrication CADmep with Design Line, which would rule out if the issue is with the Revit add-in, or with the settings in the service.  Did you have any questions regarding this test?

Design Line and Revit act the same way so it's not the Revit Add In, unless there is a way to set which fittings I would like to use within Optimize Lengths in Revit that I'm not aware of. My elbows and tees come in correctly(in Design Line and in Revit) with the fitting and the welds because I can set the Button Code and Alternate Code

within my Button Mapping preferences. I'm unable to get my unions/couplings/welds to show up where I need them because I'm not aware of a button code I can use to set the order etc. like I can with elbows(Bend), tees(RedILTee), etc.

Thank you for your help

Hello @Anonymous ,

Thank you for testing design line/CADmep to rule out the issue being with the add in its self! Where the issue is happening there as well, it's likely a setting we have to configure in the service or configuration. Are you able to share the service you are using so we are testing with the same items/setup and I have a jumping point to see if we can get this working?

You can use EXPORTSYS

In CADmep to export the system,. I would recommend zipping it before attempting to upload, I'm not sure if the forum will allow an IEZ file.

If you are uncomfortable sharing the service here, I can also send you a OneDrive folder through PM, let me know if you would prefer that instead!
