Eagle 8.3.2 BUG on MacOSX

Hi,

I'm experiencing a bug in Eagle that i'm not able to fix. When i export a PNG image of the board (monochrome, 1000 dpi) the dimension of the exported png are doubled. if i measure the size from eagle and then from an image editor software (illustrator, gimp, photoshop) the dimension are always doubled!

Anybody has the same problem?how can i fix it?

Hi @Anonymous,

I hope you're doing well. When you go to export the image, check the Area setting is it set to Window or Full? To get accurate sizing it should be set to Full and not Window.

If you can post an example of what you are describing that may help me figure out more of what is going on.

Thanks for the reply, i will post two pictures to describe the situation. The first, is a screenshot from the eagle software with the dimension of the board in mm. The second is the exported image in which i've measured the same distance that i've measured in eagle before. As you can see, the dimensions are doubled.

Is the probelm more clear??

I hope you're doing well. What graphics program are you using to measure these? I generated images from Windows and Mac and compared them using GIMP and in both cases the images were spot on.

If you have multiple graphical editors I would try measuring the same image in the different editors to see if you get different measurements.

I have attached my images for comparison. The White one was made under Windows, the Black one was made under Mac.

I've tested it with two different software, Illustrator and Gimp and both gave me the same error. I'm on Yosemite 10.10.5...do not know what can be the problem....

Hi Matteo,

I agree, it does appear to export with doubled dimensions (plus a little rounding error thrown in). I checked this in v8.3.2 and v7.7 running on macOS Sierra 10.12.6 and examining the output from EAGLE in Preview.

So, when you set the export up in EAGLE, before you click OK, it gives the intended output resolution (which would be correct) so if you take note of the X size and then in Preview scale the X of the resulting image using the value you noted down (making sure the aspect ratio is locked) then you should end up with the image being exactly the size you require. I just tested this out on one of my boards and this workaround seems to do the trick. It does seem like there is a bug in EAGLE to me though.

Thx for the reply. I think that scaling everything after taking note of the dimension is not intended to be a "normal behaviour" for the software. If it is a bug, it would be nice to have it solved 🙂

I'm pretty sure it is a bug too. I have an idea what the issue may be but it's only speculation. Jorge is aware of this now so I am sure he'll raise this with the appropriate members of the development team.

UPDATE:

I've upgraded to MacOS High Sierra and with Eagle 8.3.2 the problem is still there....exactly the same behaviour...all the images are exported with doubled dimension.

I think this is a big bug because is not related to OS...

Hi,

Just to let you know that this bug is still in effect. I have the latest version of Eagle in a brand new mac book pro and no matter how, it's still manages to double the dimensions. It's no longer a problem for me but when you're trying Eagle for the first time, it's a little bewildering.

let you know  this bug is still in effect.
"Export > Image" makes double size PNG file.
but "Export > dxf" makes correct size.

Eagle 9.2.1 
macOS High Sierra 10.13.6
