Can't find 'C:\Users\**.scr' Error.

technosteve

When I try to run a ULP, one that I have used a dozen times before without issue, is giving me an error message.

Specifically, a small popup occurring right after I execute a ULP - That has Error at the top, and Can't find 'C:\Users\Steve.scr', with an OK and Cancel box.

I've reinstalled Eagle a half dozen times, with no change in this error.

Furthermore, Windows 10 won't let anybody keep a file in the C\Users\directory. (so I can't change a default SCR file to Steve.scr)

Secondly, there are no users by the name of Steve.

Thirdly, the script I am running is on a different hard drive, and always have been, with no such filename in any folder I have.

Can you please tell me how to get Eagle to stop referencing this erroneous file/location.   Does anyone care to provide me with a default eagle SCR file and a means to set this as the file to be referenced?

Thanks!

Hi Steve,

I hope you're doing well. Which ULP are you running? The issue probably lies with the ULP. Every ULP that writes a script has to determine where the script should be saved. This is especially tricky if the script is meant to run without user intervention.

The best practice approach is to have the script written into the same location where the board and schematic are. Not all ULP writers do this, which can lead to scripts being written to locations where they are not allowed.

Please let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

ULP  is  import-bmp.ulp   Works fine on 2 other computers, so it is not the file at fault.

It's in the same location as the project files.

Hi technosteve,

I hope you're doing well. Where are the projects stored? Is it in EAGLE's installation directory? Are you using OneDrive or any of the other filesharing services?

Please let me know. That may help narrow down what's going on.

It's in a Dropbox folder. I tried several other ulps, and they all work
except this one.

Hi technosteve,

Thanks for letting me know it's in a Dropbox folder, could you try copying the file locally and then running the ULP. It seems that the import-bmp.ulp can't handle being run from a Dropbox folder(like I said earlier everyone implements the script generation differently). Please let me know if it works locally.

This brings up the need of a best practices definition for ULPs that generate scripts that need to be run on exit.

Please let me know if you continue to run into issues.

Hi yucong666,

Please download the attached file and uncompressed to  your C:\Users\_user_name_\Documents\EAGLE\ulps folder.

Make sure you run the ULP from this folder.

Keep us informed.

Hi @Anonymous,

I hope you're doing well. Double check your permissions, it could be that EAGLE is not being allowed to create the eagle.scr file.

Please let me know if you continue to run into issues.

I was wondering if a solution besides resetting my computer to factory settings has resolved this issue.  I'm having the same trouble.  Importing a bmp using "import-bmp.ulp" and I get the error "Can't find 'C:\Users\*.scr.  What gives and how do I fix this.  Running latest version of Eagle on Windows 10.

Hi @Anonymous,

I hope you're doing well. Try copying the import-bmp.ulp to the ulp folder in documents > eagle and try running it from there.

Please let me know if there's anything else I can do for you.

I think you need to find a way to cleanly uninstall Eagle or another quick way is to install all the installation files in another hard disk and run it from there. I got eventually frustrated that's way I just formatted my whole laptop.

Yes, I do agree with you that the solutions above don't work and I have tried countless way.

Currently I moved onto Diptrace. =/

I am having the same issue with import-dxf.  I moved it to the new location, and same performance.  Windows 10.  Local installation.  Installed on the Windows C: hard drive.  I will not do a factory reset of the PC

How do I check permissions for Eagle?

Help please.

I'm having the same issue with not having permission to write in the Fusion folder when using import-bmp on Windows 10. The installation was done using default paths so it appears to be and install or program error?

So sorry to hear that you had the same problem as me. I remember that I had tried almost everything I can find on the internet including deleting and reinstalling.  I also made sure that I had a complete delete before reinstalling again and nothing worked.

In the end, I formatted my computer and redo the installation again. It started working.

Im not sure if that is the best solution to you but its an option.

Cheers.
