Dynamic weld symbol block

I was a drafter/designer for fabrication shops for 16 years after collage. I’m currently working at an Engineering company as a structural designer. I noticed that most of our drafters and a few of the designers had a limited understanding of weld symbols. As such I thought I could come up with a dynamic block to help them use the proper weld symbols on our drawings. I looked over several blocks from these forums and some from coworkers, but didn’t find what I was wanting. That being said I know this block will not provide everything for everyone.

I have included the guide I wrote to go along with the block. The guide is written for an entry level drafter with basic AutoCAD skills.

I have tested this block extensively, but it may not be perfect. This is the first dynamic block I’ve created.

I would like to thank Libbya for the following post. It provided me with a starting point and some very helpful information.

First, kudos for being able to create such a complex dynamic block on your first attempt. When I looked up the number of visibility states, my jaw dropped because there might have been like 700 of them ! I tried counting but stopped at 200 Smiley LOL

That said, it may be my PC but your block really slows down the drawing I was testing it in and I'm pretty sure that it's because of such a high number of vis states. If it's fine on your end and those of your colleagues, don't change anything but it isn't you might have to fragment the block's vis states a little.

Here's a dynamic block for welds I created that might be a little easier to use.  Let me know if this helps!

Following up on your thread, it appears that several folks have tried to help on this issue. Were you able to find a solution? Or a workaround?

Did any of the posts in the thread help with your issue?

Please post back in the thread if you are still having an issue with AutoCAD or Select Accept as Solution for the post’s that helped.

Thanks for your time.

I attached a Weld block that I created. It has visibility states for each weld symbol and uses a scale parameter for the flag and tail. I used Lookup tables to scale objects to 0.000 to turn off. It's not pretty, but it reduces the amount of Vis states from 700 to 8. Hope this helps

Hello,

I just downloaded this Dynamic block of welding symbols and its awesome! Thank you!

I am having an issue though with the last 5 selection points. Listed below.

9. Toggle the tail note on and off
10. Lower weld symbol selection.

11. Upper weld symbol selection.

12. Lower weld symbol finish selection.

13. Upper weld symbol finish selection.

I am able to click on the point and the drop down window comes up with all the options but when I click on any one of them, the symbols don´t show up. Its like I had left it on blank. Why would this happen?  All the other options work and show up on the drawings no problem, its just these last 5 points that don´t seem to want to work.

I have the 2023 version of AutoCad. Any pointers on what could be going on?

Thanks for your help on this!
