Block not updating

I have altered a dynamic block, no attributes, and inserted it into a drawing that already contains that block. The blocks already in the drawing are not updating, and the newly inserted block reverts to the old blocks.

Can any one help please.

many thanks

Colin.

Yep that's standard procedure. A block inserted into a drawing will not override a block already in the drawing.

To get past this you need both drawings open.

You need to be in the drawing which your new block is going to be inserted into. At the command line type ADC. Expand the tree of the drawing which has your new block in and right click on the block and choose redefine.

In the image below my new block is in PROBORD and the one I want to change is in DRAWING1

Thank you. Don't think your solution worked for me the way you described.  tried to open the block but it would only open in block editor. Redefine is greyed out in both the offending block and the target drawing.  The block  relies on visibility states.

However thanks for the help, it got me thinking and I realised that there is more than one way to skin a cat. Just opened the block in block editor and deleted the unwanted visibility states.

Thank you for your time

PS, absolutely sure ( and my collegue agrees)reinserting a block you had a window pop up saying something like, "there are x amount of instances in the drawing , do you want to redefine". paraphrasing.

Don't open the block just be in the drawing itself.

I've never seen that "x instances" message myself, but if all the changes are the same say yes.

All commands are greyed out. I will have another look when I have some down time. But thank you for your time.
