area 3D objects

Hi

how can I add areas values from specific 3d objects from model to layout?

Need update this value when objects change their dimensions

Unfortunately, Autodesk AutoLayout, the standalone layout application, doesn't directly work with 3D objects or have built-in area calculation functionalities. However, there are alternative approaches to achieve your desired outcome:

1. Leverage AutoCAD (if applicable):

  • AutoCAD Integration: If you're using AutoCAD for your 3D modeling, you can leverage its capabilities to calculate area and transfer the data to AutoLayout. Here's the workflow:

    1. Area Calculation in AutoCAD: Use the "Area" command in AutoCAD to calculate the area of your desired 3D objects within the model.
    2. Dynamic Text or Fields: Create text elements or data fields in your AutoCAD drawing that display the calculated area values. You can achieve this using features like dynamic blocks or fields.
    3. Export to DWG/DXF: Export the AutoCAD drawing containing the 3D model and the linked area data in a format compatible with AutoLayout, such as DWG or DXF.
  • AutoLayout Import and Display: Import the exported DWG/DXF file into AutoLayout. The text elements or fields containing the area values will be imported along with the 2D representation of your model.

Benefits:

  • Automated Updates:** If you modify the 3D object dimensions in AutoCAD and recalculate the area, the linked values in the text elements or fields will update accordingly. These updates will then be reflected in the imported DWG/DXF within AutoLayout.

Limitations:

  • Requires AutoCAD:** This approach depends on having access to and using AutoCAD for the initial 3D modeling and area calculations.

2. Alternative Layout Software (Consider):

  • Software Exploration: Explore layout software programs that offer better integration with 3D modeling tools or have built-in functionalities for area calculation and data linking. Here are some examples:
    • SketchUp Pro: SketchUp Pro offers extensions like "Area & Volume Measurement Tool" or "Area" that can calculate face or group area within your model. You can then directly incorporate these values into your layout within SketchUp Pro.
    • DraftSight (Limited 3D): DraftSight offers limited 3D capabilities but allows for basic area measurement. You can potentially use it for 2.5D layouts with linked area data from external calculations.

3. External Scripting (Advanced):

  • Scripting Expertise: If you have programming knowledge, consider developing a custom script using tools like AutoCAD's AutoLISP or VBA. This script could automate the process of extracting area data from your 3D model (potentially using an external 3D modeling software) and updating a text file or spreadsheet. You can then import this data into AutoLayout.

Choosing the Right Approach:

The best approach depends on your software availability, workflow preferences, and technical expertise. If you're already using AutoCAD for modeling, leveraging it for area calculation and data linking through DWG/DXF export might be the most efficient solution. Otherwise, exploring alternative layout software with built-in area calculation features or considering external scripting (if applicable) could be viable options.

Guten Tag,

Hi,

@vyroba7U9CV

>> how can I add areas values from specific 3d objects

Which area are you referring to? The surface area from any 3D geometry or more a 2D area (like room area from architecture geom)?

Please stop using ChatGPT and then post such replies like this here, sorry, incorrect and wrong.

I wrote it already, you should first understand the question and at least verify what ChatGPT returns before posting it.
