Unsupported drawing format

I used Volo View several years ago successfully. I haven't touched it since, but have a need to view DWG files created from a customer via AutoCad 2004 (AutoCAD.Drawing.15). When I attempt to open the file, "unsupported drawing format" message appears. Does anyone know the fix?

Volo View Build 164
Windows 2K

Thanks!

Do you have Volo View version3? It's the only one to open AutoCAD 2004/2005 DWG and DXF files. -- Dean Saadallah Add-on products for LT http://www.pendean.com/lt --

Anyone know if it possible for Autocad 2004 users to save in a format supported by Volo View 1?

Thanks!

That's the problem. Costs $99.00 and you can buy it from http://www.autodesk.com/estore -- Dean Saadallah Add-on products for LT http://www.pendean.com/lt --

Volo View 2 (the free one - also called Volo view Express) will open .DWGs up to 2002. Volo View 3 (the $99 one) will open .DWGs up to 2004/2005.

If your need for viewing is occasional ask the sender of the .DWGs to save them as a 2002 or less and resend.

If that is not a good option you can also go to the Autodesk website and download a product called "Autodesk Batch Drawing Converter". This converter can change the versions of .DWG files and will let you select a 2004 .DWG and save it as a lower version. Then your Volo View 2 will be able to view it.

I'm going to put the link to the Converter download in this reply. Good luck. Post again if you have more questions or problems. Adios, Steve

Converter requires AutoCAD 2004 or 2005 to be installed on the machine: pointless in this case since if they had R2004/5 they would not be here asking. -- Dean Saadallah Add-on products for LT http://www.pendean.com/lt --

I am sorry. Dean is right. The converter doesn't work without an AutoCAD engine. Looks like your options are get someone to save the 2004 .DWG as a lower version or buy the $99 volo View 3. Take care, Steve
