Lead screw

Hi,

I am trying to create a model of a lead screw, see Lead Screw Model below. I have tried using the Thread and Coil tools but no luck.

I followed the steps in a youtube video that created the model using Inventor Make. Everything worked up until I tried using the coil tool.

Any pointers will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Ben

Hi @Anonymous,

A screencast of how you were trying to create this lead screw in Fusion, and what went wrong, will be very helpful.

Best Regards / Ben

Hi @Anonymous

I think the coil options in Inventor are not available in Fusion. In the video posted, you could clearly see the coil used the profile itself to coil/extrude up.

In Fusion, you can only specify starting plane/face and diameter etc.

Hopefully we can see these options ported into Fusion in the future.

Hi @Anonymous,

I made something for you. Let me know if that's what you are trying to do?

Check out the attached file 🙂

Cheers / Ben

If you want, I can make a screencast. I was fiddling with this for 2 hours, I wasn't sure if that's what you needed, that's why I didn't recorded my steps.

It's actually not that difficult.

1. Created a Cylinder and I used the coil just as a trail for the Sweep Path, and made it as a new Body (Which I hided later on).

2. Created a new Plane on the bottom profile of the Coil.

3. Created a new Sketch, and inside this sketch I made a 3D projection of the Coil, and I created the profile.

4. Finished the sketch and used Sweep command as a new body.

5. Then I copied and pasted the new sweep body, and used the move command to position the coil on the 90, 180, 270 degrees.

Now you can combine all the bodies together with the cylinder body 🙂

Anyway, let me know if you want me to make a screencast.

Ben.

Hi Beyondforce,

Thanks for the step by steps, that really helps a great deal. I did look at the timeline as well.

Again, thanks for your help!
