Workflow for markups

What am I missing here?

I am creating training material for my design team and I want them to use DWFx files for peer review. These are created by our Vault job processor whenever files are released.
When someone checks out a DWFx file of an Inventor model, they can add markups, save it and check it in.

But the markup process itself seems broken.

1. There is only one markup tool (of 9) available, and

2. there doesn't seem to be a nice way to add text. If I type, the callout box stays blank, so I can't see what I'm typing it. When the text inevitably has mistakes in it, I can't see the corrections as I type them.

Surely it's possible to type some callout text and see it in real time?

@shallN6L5D You might have a VAULT issue, and this does not appear to be a DWF/DWFx file in your screenshot

@pendean definitely a DWFx, I just opened it again.
I took a screen shot of the whole window this time to confirm. The file name is 244.003.416.iam.dwfx so I think taht's why the iam appears in the grey title bar.
When I created the callout shown, I couldn't see what I typed until I pressed Enter. That's quite unhelpful program behaviour. I would like to see the text as I type.
The model itself displays just fine, both here in Design Review and when opened in Forge Viewer (in the View tab in Vault or in our in-house created model/drawing viewer web app).

@shallN6L5D I am unable to replicate your issue with my own DWFx files, but we do not use VAULT nor INVENTOR, and our files are not read-only

Do you want to share your own DWFx file here?

@pendean sure, here it is. Thanks
I tried with/without it being checked out in Vault, and it made no difference to the markup behaviour.

Thanks for the file @shallN6L5D

Looks like annotations are severely limited in 3D DWFx file in this old viewer. I recommend you post and seek peer support in the Inventor and/or Vault forums to see what other options there might be there for you all.

FYI, I can see what I type when I add a call-out similar to your screenshots.

@pendean ok I've logged a ticket.
I'll leave this open for now, in the hopes that someone at Autodesk can figure out why these markups aren't working as intended, then I'll post the fix here and call it solved.
