Models are now black

Recently anything I try to draw or open is very dark. I have restarted my computer, checked to make sure I have the latest graphics drivers i switched appearance to light colored materials etc... I am using windows 8 and have attached a photo of what I am seeing.  I was able to get some work done by switching view style to just outlines. Any help would be appreciated. thank you.

Does switching DirectX mode in preferences help?

The options I had under preferences are DirectX 9 and Direct X11. I tried both with no luck. I recently did the update , but drew one part since with no problem. Do you think this could be an issue with my laptop ? My home computer works great and this is baffling me because it just happened out of th blue and I have done no changes to the laptop. I appreciate your help.

I think I just got lucky. I set it to Direct x 9 instead of the Direct X 11, exited the program and completely shut down computer and restarted it and now things appear to be normal when drawing and opening existing files. The only oddity is that the part I drew yesterday is still a black blob on the preview but opens normally as a grey part. Hopefully this solved it.

I spoke too soon. Made it through one drawing of a bracket. Opened a new page and it said real quick "updating graphics" now everything is black again. Frustrating. Under preferences it still shows my direct x 9 selection.

Well, this seems to be a related to the support of some DirectX instructions on the video card driver.

Seems obvious that F360 in its latest update has changed something about how it displays the models, maybe started using a specific instruction that wasn't used before. But this doesn't necessarily mean that it's a bug on their end.

It might be a bug with the video card drivers, so consider looking for the latest version of those.

Also, I suggest everyone that has this problem to post their GPU specs and driver version. Hopefully Autodesk can give a help also.

Is anyone that is getting the black model issue using a space mouse? Does it help if you disable the space mouse?

Thanks,

I still have the issue , but am not using a space mouse. I have temporarily given up on the laptop and have been using it on desktop until it gets figured out. I am not a computer whiz so I dont want to poke around too much more without step by step direction.

Please take a look at this post.

Let me know if the black model issue persists after the update.

Thanks,

Did that, computer tells me all drivers are up to date. Still black models. This program worked great the first 6 weeks I used it so I know it will run on this computer. I attached the diagnostic page below if this helps.

Ya, the program is amazing for its price point, I find it hard to complain. I hope they get a chance to fix it quickly, looks like they got the rest of the issues that the update caused up and going. I am however just a hobby user so Im not loosing anything by it being down. Are you guys working on the Intel HD Graphics driver still?? Hopefullly ??

Luckily I'm in the same boat hobby machinist/startup so it's not killing business. I am a pilot and get a lot of down time away from home so I love drawing with it on the laptop. For now I'm back to the notepad and pencil and just transfer to desktop when I'm home. My laptop could be replaced, any recommendations on specs I would be looking for that would be more universal or compatible with fusion 360?

I agree, you can't beat the price and it's the first cad program I feel I can focus on my project and not learning it. It's awesome.

I'm sorry to hear the black model issue is lingering around after yesterday's update. It sounds like the suggestions made in the below link may not be helpful, either.

If you are on a Windows machine, there a suggestion in the below link to Turn off visual effects in the Windows OS. Doing this may save a bit of video memory on the machine and help with the issue.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/optimize-windows-better-performance#optimize-windows-bett...

I'll reach out to the graphics team to make sure we are tracking this issue.

Thanks for your updates and the graphic info!

That's really cool to hear how you guys are using Fusion 360.  The system requirements for the software are listed here:

http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/fusion-360/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Syst...

One thing that jumped right out is how small the GPU RAM is on the computers you guys are having trouble with.  The recommended minimum is 512MB, while you guys are running at 32 and 64 MB!  I've found that desktop computers with say an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, along with a seperate graphics card with 1GB RAM, can be had from Ebay and what not for  under $100, but I'm sure for laptops it's going to be somewhat more pricy (but hopefully not too much 😉 ).

The 32 and 64 MB is misleading, these are on-board graphic chips that use part of the RAM for Video RAM, these are fairly recent chips and tipically use 1 GB of VRAM from the RAM. The 32/64 MB number seems puzzling, but might be a sort of on chip buffer? Or Fusion 360 isn't recognizing the shared VRAM? Or that's actually what these users have assigned from their RAM to the GPU?

Anyway, these are people that ran previous versions of Fusion on the same hardware without these problems.
