How do I measure while moving a part so I can get accurate distance....

Hi,

I am new to this product and would like some help with something that seems pretty simple to me.

Here is example of what I am looking for:

I have a cube with a hole in it and I want to make sure the hold is 20mm from one edge and 10mm from other edge.  Is there a way to enable or display the ruler/dimensions from the hole to the edges of the cube while I move the hole around?

Or even it there a way to display the distance between 2 holes as I move one of the holes around manually.

Thanks

Mark

How did you create your hole? With the hole command or a with a circle sketch/extrude tool?

Hey Mark!  Here's a pic of how I would do it in most cases:

Basically what I did was created a sketch defined on one of the faces of my solid box, then created in this case two sketch points, and dimensioned one to the box edge, and the other two the first point, as you mentioned.  After exiting the sketch, I used the Create > Hole tool, and snapped the hole location to one of the points, then did the same for the other.

You can also right click on a sketch and choose Show Dimension so the dimensions are always visible.  Also, when in the sketch, you can right click on a dimension and select Toggle Driven.  This is pretty cool, since now you can drag the point around, even when out of the sketch if the sketch visibility is turned on, and the hole will consequently update location.

Let us know any other questions you may have!
