Enable XREF and Viewport Overrides for Civil 3D Objects (Style-Controlled Objects)

Large Civil 3D projects often use discipline-based model drawings (utilities, parcels, etc.) covering the full site, which are XREF’d into multiple phase-specific sheet drawings.

Users need to show the same Civil 3D objects differently per sheet (Existing / Current / Future) using color and linetype. While XREF and viewport overrides work for standard AutoCAD geometry, they do not affect Civil 3D objects (parcels, pipes, structures), since their appearance is controlled entirely by Civil 3D styles.

As a result, users must duplicate drawings, create and manage multiple near-identical styles, or export Civil 3D objects to AutoCAD—none of which scale well or preserve a single source of truth.

Requested enhancement:
Provide a supported way for Civil 3D objects to respect XREF or viewport-level visual overrides, or an equivalent sheet-level override mechanism, without requiring style duplication or source file edits.

Benefits:

  • Enables phased plan representation from a single Civil 3D model

  • Reduces style management and drawing duplication

  • Preserves Civil 3D intelligence while improving sheet-level flexibility

This would significantly improve workflows for large, multi-phase infrastructure and site development projects.
