When designing horizontal geometry it is common to have a master alignment with several offset alignments which are dependent on it. Frequently the master alignment needs to be edited with alignment sub-elements added or removed. When an element is removed meaning the entire alignment is no longer continuous, all widening groups downstream of this location (i.e. at higher chainage values) are deleted and are not recreated after the master alignment is reconnected to be continuous again.
After this has happened the widening groups need to be reconnected to get back to what was there before. This can take some time errors in re-creating what existed before can occur. The most time is taken when a long alignment with multiple offsets needs to be re-created.
It would be a lot easier if the widening groups were linked to the alignment chainage and the widening groups were created as and when the chainage occurs rather than being lost.
