.xml data points adding themselves to surface in .xml

I have noticed that when importing an .xml that the data points that come along with the .xml are being added to the design surface in the .xml file.  This causes problems when data points are added to triangulation, not always but some of the time.  Is there a way to prevent this?

Is there a point group or drawing objects (points or blocks) added to the surface definition that you can simply delete or turn off?

Also if  you right click on the drawing name in the prospector's setting tab you will seee a  menu option for Edit XML Settings. You may want to try toggling some of these settings like Full Import or Create Source Data.

If you are also creating the xml look at the export options as well.

yes I can remove the data point group from surface definition after importing the .xml surface.  I guess my concern is over sending .xml files to contractors, consultants, etc.. that this is gonna happen on their end when importing the .xml files, and my designs will be screwed up.  I guess in the future it will be best not to ever send .xml files if this is what happens.  Thanks

Did Civil 3D create this xml file? THe points being added does not sound like default C3D behaivor to me. I have never seen this happen with files I create or recieve. I would do a few quick tests before avoiding xml. IMO it's the only way to send a surface. I do not send contractors points breaklines or contours.

All .xml files I have created from civil 3d and then imported into another drawing always contain these data points?  I thought they were there to georeference the file in some way?  These data points then by simply importing the .xml are added to the triangulation of the design surfaces thus re-tinning the surface creating alot of problems.  I have looked at all the export land .xml settings and played with turning things on and off and nothing seems to stop these data points from being attached in .xml file

Perhaps it has something to do with the surface definition. I just tested two surfaces. I opened the files, exported to xml, started a new file and imported both surfaces. One is survey data (C3D points and figures) the other is a design (Corridors and feature lines). Both surfaces import with only the xml entry and a snapshot in the surface definition as shown in the attachment. THis is the same behavior I have seen since I started using xml years ago.

So what's in your surface? Can you post a sample file?

Try importing my xml. Do you still get points?

so when I imported your .xml there were not any data points.  Hre is a sample of an .xml where I have data points coming in with .xml

I know this is an old post, but I just came along to it.

I don't see this explanation below. When importing an XML surface, select the surface, then expand the Import LandXML dialog for Surfaces, if the SourceData is available, uncheck that box. This should prevent the surface points from being created.
