Working with long & latts

Screenshot (2).pngScreenshot (3).png I have set the geo marker projection is LL84, still unsure how to set up drawing to label points and see lats & longs in properties also how can I make sure it’s orientated correct with two known lats and longs, never had to do this so definitely need help, thanks

To see the Lat/Long in properties you need to have a LL based system set.

Patrick,
"...see lats & longs in properties..."
Of what kind of objects?

More details please on what you want to accomplish. Are you wanting to label COGO Points with Lats and Longs? Note labels?

So your importing cogo points into the drawing, would these points come from your field crew? What system did they have there data collector in. What exactly are they providing you with points that are on GRID or GROUND, as your elevation above sea level is greater that 1000' this would have an affect on the location of the data if they were providing you with GRID data, and you need the location of this data on the GROUND which would require you to set a average sea level elevation for the site and a combined scale factor so obtain the corrected (scaled) GROUND latitude and longitude.

I don't think the OP has much experience with Civil 3D. I think they're referring to a "point" as any spot in the drawing. Other than MAPTRACKCS or changing the status bar coordinates to Geographic. I haven't found a way to pick a point and get the Lat/Long. Making a Note label to display the coordinates may be the only way.

Patrick,

I'm struggling to understand what you want to do. When you say "all points" do you mean COGO Points, AutoCAD Points, or something else.
More description please about why you need to see or label Longs and Lats. What information does your drawing represent? Is it for utilities, parcels, or staking out driveways?

So your drawing is referenced against Dakota County MN, US feet. If you want to know where lat & long coordinates are located in your drawing, then you can do it the easy way. Well maybe it's not the easiest, maybe it is, maybe it's not, but it is more intuitive. Begin with a clean, brand new, out-of-the-box imperial template and assign the coordinate system known as 'Dakota County MN, US feet' then follow these steps and you'll end up with your two points as shown in image 5 down below.

  1. Change your work space to Planning and Analysis (when all steps are completed you can return  to the Civil3D workspace). See image-1.
  2. Go to Geolocation tab=>Tools Panel=>Mark Position dropdown=>Lat-Long Icon. See image-2.
  3. On command line type in 44.7857 for latitiude. For Longitude, type in -93.1617. Then at your blinking cursor in modelspace, enter the point no. 1806181003 then click in an empty, blank area, away from your curson to exit the geomarker. Repeat for your second point: Lat=44.7853, Long=-93.1609, Point no.=1806201011. See image-3.
  4. Select point no. 1806181003, go to properties palette=>Change Size to 10.  Select point no. 1806201011 change size to 10. See image-4.
  5. Turn on Bing Hybrid=>Zoom to extents. See image-5.

Notes:

  • Your geomarkers will have two pairs of coordinates: x,y will be in Dakota County MN Feet. Do not confuse x,y feet with Lat/Long degrees while the Lat/Long coordinates will be in WGS84 Lat/Long degrees with Lat as positive and Long as negative.
  • When viewing Lat/Long degrees at the bottom of the properties palette, the format displayed is controlled by the variable LATLONGFORMAT (0=Decimal degrees, 1=Deg-Min-Sec).
  • Whether coordnates are x,y feet or decimal degrees or Deg-Min-Sec, the precision of the coordinates is controlled by your drawing units. Enter UNITS on command line=>in Length Section=>Precision dropdown=>change precision to at least 6 decimal places so you'll get an accurate position--the more decimals the better (or 'tighter') your point location will be.
  • If you wish to rotate your UCS, you can rotate it after step 5.
  • If you with to return to Civil 3D workspace, you can return to it after step 5.
