Update to 19.0j Vehicle Tracking

I'm working in 2018 C3D xrefing in files from an architect and getting the message to update vehicle tracking to 19.0j.  I have installed the 2019 vehicle tracking object enabler to no avail.  Do you know of a fix for this?  The warning pops up a blue million times when opening or printing.  It's an aggravation I don't need.

Many Thanks,

Fred

@Anonymous,

Hi there, I see an article that might help you solve this issue of the "Update to 19.0j Vehicle Tracking". I have an article from the AKN that addresses that issue, at least in description, as found here.

To quote the article for quick resolution (see below). A note on the article content, the versions listed do not match yours, as described, but the solution parallels yours, I believe.

Causes:

  • Drawing contains Vehicle Tracking 2018 objects.
  • If there are no Vehicle Tracking objects, the latest Civil 3D Object Enabler is not installed. For example, drawing was saved in Civil 3D 2018 without Civil 3D 2018 Object Enabler 2018 installed. When the same drawing is opened in Civil 3D 2017, the warning message will be displayed.

Solution:

  • The error messages you receive is because the drawing was created using Vehicle Tracking 2017 which is installed in the user's machine.
  • The message is displayed because program was unable to recognize some objects which was created in Vehicle Tracking and if you don't have vehicle tracking installed or you are having an older version, the message will be displayed.
  • You will also notice that the object will be named as ACAD_PROXY_ENTITY.
To get rid of the message, you will need to open the source drawing which is having the Vehicle Tracking entities and then export the drawing to plain AutoCAD objects only
  • If there is no Vehicle Tracking objects in the drawing and the warning message is displayed in an older version of Civil 3D, make sure Civil 3D 2018 object enabler is installed. (which I see in your post, you have done)."

I hope this helps, please visit the article link,  if so please select "accept solution" if not, do not hesitate to ask more questions and I would be happy to help further.

Copper,

Thanks for the assist.

While this did eliminate the error dialogue popping up repeatedly it also eliminated other c3d objects I prefer not to loose.

Many Thanks,

Fred

@Anonymous,

I am happy to help. I have a few requests or questions to ask.

  • Do you have a screen shot or screencast you can share of the behavior?
  • Can I have a screen shot of your vehicle tracking software version?
  • What is your PROXYNOTICE set to?

Some of the more common issues with these types of issues come down to proxy graphics of AEC objects being displayed correctly.

Fred,

Unfortunately, because the architect is using 2019 and there are objects within vehicle tracking that are not backwards compatible, you pretty much either need to move to 2019 as well or deal with the error message.  We have the same issue here at our office as we are in the process of upgrading to 2019, the users still on 2018 receive this message on newer files.

I'm not sure if there is a way to suppress the error message, it is similar to what goes on with proxy objects, the box always appears to let you know objects are there.

Chris,

This is the assumption I've been working under.  I'll continue to "enter" through the warnings.

Fred

If you want to keep your other C3D objects but just ditch the Vehicle Tracking objects, you can use PURGEVEHICLETRACKING.

^ Use EXTREME caution with the PURGEVEHICLETRACKING command. It worked, but upon reopening my drawing, it in-effect completely destroyed it.

I've now lost a days' work because of it.

Bummer!  But thanks for the tip.  After searching a bit, it looks like it's not an uncommon issue.  Yikes!

...What there should be is an override, to force the error message to never show its face ever again. I've had to navigate hundreds of drawings with this issue - and no vehicle tracking objects in any of them.

This "bug" has become an invasive, incurable disease.

I'm confused about needing to have the C3D 2018 Object Enabler installed when C3D 2018 itself is installed. Are Vehicle Tracking objects now a part of the C3D OE, so even if a user doesn't have VT installed it'll somehow show it? Has Autodesk made it where you need to install the C3D OE even though C3D itself is installed?

I just ran into this issue, except everyone is using C3D 2018. I did not have VT installed, but someone must have had it installed and edited a base file XREF. Now all drawings are giving this idiotic warning about needing to update to v18.1. On one drawing I had to close the dialog box 40 times before I was able to edit it. No joke. I was lucky in that we had a license of Vehicle Tracking so I could install it, but what do people without VT do? I tried using PURGEVEHICLETRACKING, but that caused 1075 errors, 840 objects deleted, and a dozens of new recovery layers.

This is a big issue that Autodesk needs to fix as Vehicle Tracking is becoming much more of a headache to deal with than even AutoTURN.

A fix i found was to download and install 2018.1 and 2018.2  vehicle tracking updates from autodesk's website.
