This is probably so simple, that I'm overlooking the EASY button for it.
I rendered a surface with short grass but can't unrender it (not show it), to restore my view of the Surface Style as a TIN with Boundary. I tried all three options in the RENDER MATERIAL pulldown in the SURFACE PROPERTIES dialog box (BYLAYER, GLOBAL, BYBLOCK, etc...), and all I got was a gray background over my surface display. I was looking for an option that says NONE or something like that.
What can I be overlooking?

Well, it was so easy, that I wish I could delete my post.
My viewport visual style was set to Realistic. So the rendering was being removed, but the gray fill was due to the Visual Style I was using.
I should give myself a Kudos for noticing it, but I'm not worthy.
I'll give you Kudos for posting the answer.
