I'm trying to figure out if you can have your blocks (manholes, wells, lights, etc..) separated from the points in Civil3d? I do remember in LDD they were separate so that you could freeze the points and only show the symbols associated with the Survey points. I already have blocks associated with the points using Point & Label styles and Desc Key sets.
That is the way we have ours setup as well. The point #, code and elevation are on a text layer which can be frozen independent of the symbol. That is how we control visibility, not the very non intuitive point group hierarchy sorting Autodesk pushes.
