Surface creation using point Grid

I have survey of point grid of 2x2 which makes millions of point. Converting it into COGO is a big task .Earlier i use to have export LANDXML from surface and import it into design alignment and use the surface. Please suggest me someway to make design file light and tackle this situation.

Hi Gaurav,
You can add a point file directly to your surface without creating COGO Points.

Hey Dave !!! Thanks for replying , to import point directly in civil 3d needs to have details in CSV/txt format for By coordinate and elevation but i got a survey with millions of points to extract points in csv would be a long time taking task

Gaurav,
OK, option #2 would be to use ReCap to create an RCP file(point cloud) for import into Civil 3D. That would allow control over the number of points and level of detail in your surface.

As @Pointdump said unless you need to have I would never create cogo points to add to a surface as this will slow Civil 3D right down (and possibly crash it)

Can you share an example of the data you have - i assume it is a grid format in which case you could try creating a Surface from DEM OR create a standard surface and add the DEM?

You may also need to run Surface Simplification on the surface (remove 85% of the points) to reduce the size of the triangulation and avoid the creation of the dreaded mms file.
