Some (not all) linetypes don't scale to viewport

Hi all,

I'm working on a drawing that is to be viewed at multiple scales, so I'd like for the linetypes to automatically adjust to the scale of the viewport.

Unfortunately, some linetypes (not all) will not adjust to scale. See attached photos - you'll see that the top linetype does not adjust to scale, while the bottom linetype will.

It's been suggested that the linetypes that do not adjust might have been .dgn linetypes that were brought in but lost the scaling functionality in the process.

LTSCALE, PSLTSCALE, and MSLTSCALE are all set to <1>, which is evidenced by how some linetypes DO adjust to the scale of the drawing.

Any suggestions or insights are appreciated!

Check the linetype scale of the individual lines.

You might check to see that the object properties for each individual line, linetype scale is also set to 1, and that linetype generation is enabled.

Thanks all for the replies so far.

The linetype scale for each line is set to "1", and linetype generation is set to "enabled". The issue persists.

Check the text style being used for the linetypes.  Normally this should NOT be annotative.  If you're attempting to re-use an existing text style, skip that idea and create separate non-annotative text styles specifically for line types.

1. Are the lines in xref files? Same or difference xrefs? If they are in xref's try adding the line type to the host file. Preferably xref have everything set by layer so that you can change the layer overrides in hosts.

2. Try recreating the linetype (with a new name) and reimport to the parent file. As you mentioned, if its .dgn (microstation) its better to replace it with a ACAD linetype.

3. I have noticed that (since 2017) ACAD is sometimes reluctant to change linetype display/printing after they are reloaded/changed until you close and open the file.

Hello @Anonymous

Do think its possible for you to post the drawing for review since you are still having the issues? Thanks

Wendell, certainly. See attached.

dgorsman, these linetypes came supplied from a DOT template, so I unfortunately don't have access to the .lin files. I also am not able to export the linetypes to .lin to check the coding. Quite frustrating!

cwr, the linetypes behave the same way even when they're not in an xref. I might have to take your advice and just try to recreate the linetypes as AutoCAD linetypes, but I'm hoping it doesn't come to that.

Thanks all for your thoughts!

Hello @Anonymous

Wow, there is allot of linetypes in this drawing. I was thinking that maybe you could possibly use the DesignCenter to copy them into your existing template but, I found this <<post>> which offers a lisp routine to export .lin file from your drawing. I think this may offer a solution since you don't have the actual .lin to modify. I hope this information helps!
