Publish Surfaces to Autodesk Docs showing error while importing in Revit

Hi,

I am trying to publish the Civil 3D surface to Revit Topography through Collaborate-Publish Surface option. Publish surface process is completing successfully but when the team is trying to link the .shared file to Revit, following error shows

I have tried all the workarounds but nothing works. Have anyone faced similar issue, kindly help.

I have exactly the same problem! Funny thing - last month it still worked, not only with me, but with 15 students.

yes it also worked for me till mid of last month. As of now i am exporting the IFC from the surface and then linking it in Revit as temporary measure.

Are both of you using 2023? Just curious if it's broken in 2024 as well. Could it have been a Revit update? Are you guys running 2023.1.2?

I noticed they pulled the 2023.1.1 update.

Hi, I tried publishing from Civil 3D 2023 as well as Civil 3D 2022. Same eroor pops up while importing in Revit.

I wonder if it's because of the Desktop Connector update? Trying to narrow this down to relay to the Civil team at Autodesk.

Using the same Desktop Connector on both software

I used C3D 23 and 24, Revit 23 and 24, Desktop Connector 16.3. and Desktop Connector 15.?

The error message always showed up (see screenshot 1).

I switched back to Revit 23,  as in Revit 24 the a new "toposolid" causes problems with C3D terrains (see screenshot 2).

Looks to me that the Revit and C3D Autodesk teams are not working togehter, altough the Site Design colaboration is promoted. We C3D users don't need toposolid, we need the old topography,  which worked fine.  In Revit 2024 in the video link Topography to the Buidling Mode under HELP  still the old workflow with topography and not with toposolid is explained ... , something is wrong

Agree. I used Desktop Connector 16 today but still the same error. Funny thing is when i try linking the old published surface which i saved last month are getting linked, its the new published surface which is showing this error. I guess we have to live with it until Autodesk comes up with a solution.

Hi Peter,

Yesterday i tried publishing the surface using different Civil 3D template and it worked fine. You can also check this option.

Hi Rohit,
Unfortunately negative.

I used a new C3D project with terrain, published the shared.dwg on the ACC.
In Revit with Link Topography I still receive the error message. Very frustrating.

In the meantime I recommended my students to insert the Revit Architecture in C3D.
Using Shared Coordinates works fine.

You might be using the same .dwt file for the new project also. I changed the dwt template and brought the surfaces into the new file and now it is working fine.

Hi there!

My local C3D supplier told me to use the latest updates.
So I am using:
C3D 23 2.3
Revit 23 1.2
Desktop Connector 16.3.0

In C3D I use _Autodesk Civil 3D (Metric) NCS.dwt
In Revit I use DefaultMetric.rte

Still I receive the Error Message "The topography data does not contain ... "

As a workaround I am using now ifc 4.3.

This helps also with the toposolid issue in Revit 2024.

I just got confirmation from Autodesk that this is indeed a defect and they are looking into it.

Hi Rohit, Peter,
Thank you for submitting your question in our discussion forums. As Todd alluded to, the issue you described has been reported by other customers to Autodesk and is currently being researched by our development team. For potential solutions and updates, please refer to the article provided below.

"The topography does not contain usable surfaces." appears when linking topography from ACC Docs in ...

Was able to resume linking topo by copying shared dwgs from ACC project to new B360 project.

Hi Wendy,

I had a look at the link you send.

"To solve this issue, reupload the DWG file to ACC and link it to Revit again."

Does not work, the error message shows up again

"If this does not work, consider the following work-arounds:

I am using no longer BIM360, this would be a big step back ..., besides that who switches a whole project from ACC to BIM360, because of a software error (probably in Revit 24)?

Toposurface / Contours

This is not a solution for Civil 3D Site Designer!!!

Civil 3D surfaces are much better than the the Revit toposurface.

Never would touch them, I just need to import my Civil 3D terrain in Revit 2024.

Have a look at Revit Help "Sharing Topography between Revit and Civil 3D" - it is still the workflow with topography not with toposolids

The problem is definately not solved yet - please come up with a solution for C3D users who need to import terrain in Revit 2024.

My solution right now - ifc 4.3 ... .
