Points and Surfaces from Land Desktop drawing not showing up in Civil 3D

I really hope someone has an answer to this. I've searched the forums and either I'm not entering the right keywords or there hasn't been any problem report. I'm hoping the latter is not the case.

I have received a drawing that I assume was created in Land Desktop. Unfortunately, the creator of this drawing is unreachable to this time or I would simply have him resend the file or export the information. When I open the file, I can see in the preview that their are points and contours in the drawing. However, when I open it, those objects do not show up. I can "quick select" them but that's all I can do. Attempts and converting the "unseen" points to civil 3d points is unsuccessful. I have experienced this before with another file a while ago and seemed to get lucky and it worked. That occasion what not a consistent result when opening the file. Sometimes the content would display and other times it wouldn't. I don't know if I have an incorrect setting or just a weird glitch. Any ideas? I have proxygraphics set to 1 and am using Civil 3D 2010.

Thanks for your help!

Try starting a clean .dwt based drawing and insert the problem
file. No guarantee, but I have had similar LDT display issues and that
technique ended the problem.

If PROXYGRAPHICS were set to 1 before the sender saved the file you'd see
them. Unfortunately like you say, he's unreachable. If you have LDT you can
open it, set that variable, then save it.

I have also noticed this a couple of times it seems to be very random. Today I had a user with this problem so I opened the drawing on my computer and the contours and points were there. I went back to the other computer reopened and they were still not showing up. We have a lot of old drawings that contain land desktop objects, it worries me that these objects seem to be so unstable in Civil 3D 2010. I never noticed this in previous releases of Civil 3D.

Has there been a repair done on his computer recently? I would recommend
it.

This is not isolated to the one computer I have also had this occur on my computer in the past.
