Point Label Text has Width to Lines Making up Letters-Won't Print Per Pen Table

I cannot seem to figure out why some of my point labels have text that appears to have a width hard coded to it, it does not follow the color.  When I place text right next to it they appear different, the label seems to have a width to the line making it up, and it prints very wispy and difficult to read.

The drawing was started by a novice autoCAD user that I presume has changed some obscure setting somewhere that is causing this, but I cannot seem to figure out what it is.  See screenshot.

Looks like that is the TrueType version of the font being used, TTF are not affected by plot styles.

Go to Settings > Point > Label Styles > "GEO-PL Des. ONLY - PREVIOUS" > Edit

Go to the Layout Tab

Under Component Name, select "Point Description"

Look in the Text Section, next to Contents. It says something like "{\fSimplex|b0|i1......."

Click in there, then click the [...] button to open the Text Component Editor

Highlight the text in the editor and tap the DELETE key to erase it.

Go to the Format Tab, confirm the Text Style is still "Simplex" and that the font is an SHX (not TTF)

Go back to the Properties Tab, choose "Name" from the drop down, then click the arrow to the right of the drop down.

Click OK

When you return to the Label Style Composer dialog, look in the field next to "Contents" now. You should only see the text "<[Name(CU)]>"

CLick OK to close this dialog, then REGEN.

I noticed all that garbage in front of the font name but could not figure out how to get rid of it.  It was not like that on another label style that was not messing up.

Closing the editor out empty, then re-entering it and adding the information back got er done.

For anyone interested, the culprit to why this was happening is when the Italics is applied to the font inside of the point group settings.  So, the workaround is to create a Text Style that incorporates Oblique angle to achieve Italics and then use that text style in the point group.  This worked.
