It looks to me that you choose the wrong grip in the drag state of the label, which I do often as point labels do the same thing.

No issue here Rick. Just demonstrating for a friend. Autodesk did not email me a link like they used to and my contributions page no longer shows all my screen cast. Do you know how to get to personal screen cast library?

I tried pinning a label leader just yesterday and I could not move the label after it was pinned. At least your approach gets the job done, but with a lot of picks. I hope there is a better way. Otherwise I'll just live with crappy leaders.

Boss: "Why are your leaders pointing to the sides of the structures?" Designer: "Cause that's how our software works". Boss: "Seriously?"

I've got labels for structure that go up or down (but not left and right). They look like this, I didn't come up with the idea (tweaked it for my purpose) but I can't remember where I found it so I can't give credit to the creator.

Let me know if it's something that would help you guys.

They eliminated the personal screen cast library back in December, cant remember if it was December 2020 or 2021.  There was a big campaign on it letting people know that they were going away for months in advance.   You can have screencasts still, to keep them "private" you would need to just share the link with the person, but anyone with that link could access the screencast.
