Hi,

I created correct SHP files for you from your original XLS file. There are two groups, one for the manholes and the second one for pipes. Totally you have 4+4=8 files.

If you would like to use the data on GIS level, just drag and drop two SHPs to Civil3D. You will basically then used AutoCAD Map functionality. You will have all the data but it will be just generic line-node topology, with all the data inside of AutoCAD MAP. Your network will be FDO based.

Another way is to use again MAP functionality (which we called "the old one") through MapImport command. Then you can have usual AutoCAD entities (unlike FDO), with object data inside (don't forget to tell that you would like to import additional data as object data).

Don't be confused with Map and Civil 3D, inside of every C3D is MAP.

The third way is to import SHPs in Civil 3d, as intelligent pipe objects, which for example will have 3D presentation, real pipes as 3D elements, and so on. Unlike two previous workflows, pipe elevation will be real pipe elevation, not just attribute data. The function is IMPORTGISDATA. You have to pass through wizzard workflow and you have to match correctly pipes and manholes/structures. Here is one problem with automatic matching in Civil 3D. You have to check what your dimensions of the pipes and manholes really represent (inner dia, outside dia, ....). And you have to have in C3d part list adequate elements (pipes and structures) which fit exactly to your data. Not sure, but the best way is to have just one part list with one pipe group and one manhole group, which will have the same values as you have in SHP files. With that you will force Civil 3d to take just those values. Which values you have to have in part list, you can find in your original XLS file.

Hi,

Thanks,it was useful, but i have doubt with that pipe shape file i converted that pipe shapefile into CSV file then i tried to import into QGIS in that i have to assign coordinate system(X and Y) like manhole but i am unable to assign that i tried all the geometry definition but i am unable to convert that please explain me the procedure for this.

Thanks,

I am not sure what are you doing now and why are you going back to QGIS and CSV. PointDump, in his solution, used QGIS as help to create SHP files from your original XLS file.

I created SHP files in a different way, without using QGIS. Now you have two SHP files, and the only thing what you need to do is to import those files in Civil 3D (or MAP).

SHP files do not have data like slope, pipe length and manholes coordinates (x,y), because they would be calculated by Civil 3D when you use ImportGISData. Concentrate on C3D part list and matching procedure to have correct pipes and manholes.

Maybe you can tell me few words, what is real target of your project and what you would like to achieve.

If you follow my initial answers, you can see that I used Urbano, our own application. Initially I import your network directly from XLS, without using SHP at all. Later on, when I saw your attempts with SHP, I exported network from Urbano to SHP file. I did it, because SHP is kind of standard, and you can use it in variety of applications (including C3D, Map, ESRI Arc..)

I don't know details about QGIS. Pointdump suggested solution using QGIS.

Definitely could be some other solutions, but I don't know for them. Maybe some other people on DG can help you.

Shashirekha,

Try using Drazen's shapefiles. He's got them nicely sorted into Manholes and Pipes. Use "Import GIS Data" to Map the data into a pipe network.
