Help with Correcting Broken Reference

Anonymous
Not applicable
I have a file with a broken reference. When I try to open the original drawing, almost everything loads. But then the program just gets hung up. I started a new drawing and inserted the original drawing into it. Most of the stuff comes in okay. But I get the BIG WORDS that say there is a broken reference. So I try the "Repair Broken Reference" option and it gets hung up here too. I have researched and read and have found no solutions. I really need to get this fixed. The broken reference which is the surface works fine in other drawings. Is there anywhere I can edit the reference to tell it where to look. Currently it is looking in "C:\Documents and Settings\littlee\Local Settings\Application Data\Autodesk\C3D 2009\enu\Template\Drawing Name.dwg." I'm using C3D 2009.

You might want to try the Reference Editor application. The setting may
be "handle only" and you can change it to Name & Handle, this might
resolve your issue for that dwg.

Thanks for your help Lisa. Could you tell me where to find the reference editor? I'm using C3D 09.

UMMMM, Start > Program Files > Autodesk > Autocad Civil 3D 2009 > Data
Shortcuts Editor, this is where you edit the information about your data
references.

Thanks again. Still haven't resolved the issue yet. I tried what you suggested, but no luck. I'll probably just have to start over. If I could just delete the reference surface somehow, I could probably just reinsert it. But anyway. I'll keep trying.

Why not just delete the broken reference (just delete or erase the big words telling you about the broken reference) and re-reference the data shortcut? This works everytime for us.

Try opening the file on another computer and see if it will break. One
without any of the littlee path. Then you _might_ be able to delete the
reference via Prospector. The reference pointer is stored in the
drawing, so that has to fail in order for you to get your hands on it.
That's also why the Edit Data Shortcuts application didn't do anything
for you.

Good luck!

when multiple drawing reference the data, this is a bad idea unless it's the only thing that works
