Google earth to C3D 2018

Hi, guys, I just downloaded the Civil 3D 2018 and I cannot find where to insert a Google Earth image. Is it even possible or you can only insert from that other online map, the one which is in the program? I hope it's possible because I'm using the student version and the program says I have no permission for the Online Maps.

The Google Earth to Civil 3D feature was removed due to copyright issues back in 2013 edition.

There is a way to use Google Earth Explorer to download Ortho & DEM images for your specified area. Just do a google search for the explorer.

Really? The student version doesn't allow the online maps? BING Maps is now built into C3D for free so that's what I'd try. You should just need an autodesk account and be signed in, then set the coordinate system and a new ribbon tab should immediatly appear called "Geolocation". If this does not happen you may need to get the hotfix as Bing updated their map services at some point: https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/downloads/caas/downloads/content/autodesk-C2-AE-autoc...

Hope this helps!

D,

You're getting some good advice here. @Jeew-m 's recommendation of ArcGIS for AutoCAD is excellent. It will give you much better imagery than Bing Live Maps.

Thanks Jeew-m this is really neat! Do you know if there's a way to print sheets using the Esri Maps World Map service? I was able to connect and now see the imagery in model space but it doesn't come though the paperspace viewports. Thanks.

Kirk,

I noticed the same. When I selected one of my paper space tabs, the image goes bye bye.

I have installed the ArcGIS, but I couldn't find the the .dll file anywhere, so basically I couldn't run it 😞1.png2.pngwinrar.png

The hotfix worked, even though it said it's not supporting the version of the CD3 I am using.

Thank you all for the useful advices!

D,

Did you run the EXE? It should automatically place the DLL here:

Yes, I did, I even tried to do the repairing but nothing changed. Still no .dll files.

Thanks anyway!

You might look into Plex.Earth. I've had great experiences with it but it comes at a cost.

Negative! Probably more than C3D to be honest.
