Extracting xyz ASCII from dxf

Hi there,

I have a dxf file containing surveyed ground level points.  Is there a quick way to export these dxf xyz points from AutoCAD  Civil 3D to a simple ASCII text file?

(First day using the software!)

Cheers

Paul.

There are several ways to accomplish it, maybe the quickest one is:

1] _MAPEXPORT to a point shapefile

2] open the resulting .DBF in a spreadsheet

3] copy the coordinates' column, and paste it in Notepad.

Once opened in acad, you could also use the data extraction wizard.

I used these techniques for another purpose http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/AutoCAD-Civil-3D/Extract-Vertices-from-Crossing-3D-polys/m-p/3690292/h... so Kudos to antoniovinci and mathewk

What is the resultant dwg objects? Export may be unnecessary if the object can be added to the surface definition directly, no?

thanks for that.  The data was needed for a GIS app, so exporting to .shp worked well
