I will try to log in as you in another machine and open the same file to see if the problem is your user account permissions or the computer.

or the other way around somebody else to log in on your machine to try to reproduce the same issue

Hope this will help!

I dont quite understand your response. Other machines this works seemingly fine on.

But what happens if you with your Microsoft user id log in another machine?

Does behave the same way?

And if it did what would that mean? Nothing has changed on the network side and Civil 3d has been on this machine for 2+ years.

The problem could be corruption under your user account.

You need to troubleshoot the issue...

Any other problems that might point to a problem with that particular machine?

I've go a couple of 75 meg surface files that take a few minutes to open, but nothing that would take as long as you indicate, and crashing is a problem.  I was surprised to get a Blue Screen of Death, not long ago, but nothing since.

I would look at the machine, are other big files doing the same thing when you try to open them?

I will have to start digging into the machine, but it could be anything. It's as if I stepped over a line and now it's under water. I'm not experiencing crashing, BSOD, no errors, nothing.

What is the difference between this machine and the one that works just fine...?
Do you have all updated drivers, hotfix and updates installed for windows and C3D?

Hope this will help!

The other machine is a new unit, mines got a few years on it. It's been a great machine. As far as I know everything is up to date.

I have identified a potential lead in this investigation. If I chance my workspace to anything other than CIVIL3d the drawing opens as expected, mater of seconds after the lines appear on the display. If I try to change the workspace to CIVIL3d while in it, it will hang, or at least takes forever to make the change. I have already tried replacing the profile but that doesn't do anything but reset all my settings.

You could try pulling a working Civil 3D cuix file from a machine that doesn't have the problem. You can grab the file from the following location:

C:\Users\<User>\appdata\roaming\autodesk\c3d 2015\enu\support\c3d.cuix

If the above doesn't work, then your best bet might be just starting fresh with a clean uninstall and reinstall:

2015: Clean install of Civil 3D

Make sure that you delete the folders and registry keys mentioned in the article to ensure that you're actually starting fresh
