Desktop Connector with Civil 3D “checking latest version”

My firm just started using BIM360 for Civil 3D last year. It started off great, allowing collaboration across our multi-city offices.  With the latest desktop connector update however, my desktop connector (14.6.0.1242) gets into endless loops of “checking the latest version” and ends up using 100% of my cpu, eventually freezing my laptop.

Uninstall and re-install..... Or clean install

It took 3 attempts to uninstall and 2 to reinstall, but that did the trick.  Everything appears to be functioning well with the new installation of desktop connector.
