Design Center Layer Reset

I use Design Center periodically to copy a Layout from one drawing to another so I can get the viewports in the same spot, but change a few things on it. For some reason when some of us in the office do this it has been resetting all of the viewport layer settings so all Layers are thawed, which can be overwhelming to deal with in some of our more compilicated drawings. Does anyone know a way to keep the layer setting from the original drawing file when adding to a different drawing file?

In the destination drawing, toggle the value of VISRETAIN.

We have VISRETAIN set to 1, what should we have it set to?

Try hitting layer previous immediately after

That didn't work, I set both drawings to 0 VISRETAIN. Do you have any other ideas?

Do the drawings both have a layer states manager that is named the same?  If so, could one layer state be overwriting the other?

Did not work. All of the VP layer settings are set to thawed when I do this. Some of my co-workers do not have this issue when adding layouts through design center so I must have some setting set different in my software.

Hi @raaker

When using Design Center are you adding the OTHER dwg? Don't copy the other drawing's template (DWT). You'll need to browse-to then add the target LAYOUT TAB from the actual DWG itself. Make sure you have saved that other drawing with the desired layers either frozen or thawed. The Design Center will add the layout based on that drawing's last save.

If some users in your office are having success while others are not, you'll need to look over the shoulder of those who can't do it and watch their monitor to find out what they're doing wrong. (Or look over the shoulder of good users to find out what they're doing right.)
