Curves by Bearing & Length

Im just starting to use Civil 3D and am right now working with lines by bearing. I have a curve in my plat and started off using "Curve from end of object". I selected my last property line and put in my radius but my curve doesn't go the correct direction. My curve info is as follows:


L = 164.41'
CH = S 16d15m40s E
Then underneath that info it says, 162.71'


I also have a curve data table that has a radius of 330.00.

I'm having a difficult time attaching a TIFF of the final plat I'm trying to recreate and the CAD file that I'm generating it in so I hope I've given enough info for my question.

How do I go about making this curve work as it does on the plat? The methods I've tried so far are not working.

It looks like the 162.71 is your chord length.



So draw a line that goes S16°15'40"E for 162.71 feet, then use the endpoints of that line to build an arc with radius 330. The chord and the arc might not hit exactly the same point, due to rounding errors, but in that case, I would hold the delta angle and radius of the arc, and the chord bearing as the bearing between your arc endpoints.

Try entering -330 for the radius if you want it to go the other way. I'm pretty sure it is + for a curve to the right and - for a curve to the left.

That is correct. If you use a 330 radius with a
curve length of 164.41 you will end up with an arc turning right with a
chord length of 162.715 that is tangent to the end of the line. If you use a
-330 radius, the curve will turn left with the same dimensions.

Thanks for your help. I didn't realize I needed to draw a line first with the bearing info and length info. I was able to do that and then draw a curve from end of object to then input my radius! Step one...complete. Now moving onto the next chapter. 🙂 Thanks again!
