Creation of DEM, georeferenced in the UK

We have long since struggled at my company to export our civils 3d models to a .dem file tyoe, for our colleagues to use in mapinfo. The problem seems to stem from a difference in foot/metre co-ordinates however on the troubleshooting page, it states that it should work if a metre system is used. However when the UK system is selected it comes up with an error message. Can someone better explain what is happening or suggest a solution?

Hello and welcome to the forum. I know that some systems just don't convert. I don't know if that's your issue. The person I think most likely to answer your questions, @Pointdump isn't around today. He'll probably be back tomorrow.

In the meantime. If you will tell us about which version of the program you're running and exactly what you've tried so far. It will assist those who may be able to help.

@Murph_Map might also be able to help but he's around less frequently. The "@" mention will notify those users I've mentioned them in this post.

If you're on Subscription and have access to the Subscription center. You could also start a support request with Autodesk

SR,

Welcome to the Autodesk Forums!

As Allen suggested, please tell us which version and service pack you're using, and what steps you took to export to DEM. Can you post a screen shot of that error message? Also, posting a problem drawing would help to diagnose.

A bit more specific information on your actual issue would help. I use MapInfo and Civil3d regularly so might be able to help. Posting the file(s) and any metdata is the key.

Cheers

Thanks all. Running Civils 3d 2016 with service pack two. I have uploaded the drawing in question, however the problem doesnt seem to be drawing specific as it is related to the drawings co-ordinate system, of which all of ours are the same.

I select the surface in the toolspace and select 'Export to DEM...'

The first picture is the error, the second is a list of alternative co-ordinate systems I could use. This is only populated with USA and a few other countries - nothing related to the UK.

SR,

Confirmed. I'm getting same.

I haven't had much luck exporting to DEM. Export to GeoTIFF instead. What file format do you need for MapInfo? You might need to do a two-step and convert the GeoTIFF to whatever format you need.

We need a .dem or .asc for use in map info as the guys read off level data etc from it. Therefore I think geotiff is unsuitable, after speaking to collegues? Can anyone advise on if you can export to.asc?

SR,

And Microdem will convert a GeoTIFF to a DEM or ASC or XYZ:
