Creating and Manipulating Shape Files

I am working on a project where they want to be able to bring in kml and kmz files into Google Earth.  The data they want is parcel information where the text could be displayed.  The parcel shape files do have that information as an attribute attached to those lines.  Also, I am needing to bring in contour shape files with the ability to label those contours to show an elevation.  Again, the elevation is attached to the linework.  Is it possible to be able to do this?  Thanks in advance

It's all a function of the driver writing the KML content, of which you likely only have one currently available to you, that being Civil3Ds EXPORTKML command.

Google Earth has the ability to show extended data included on the object.

In this picture ...

GE-Example.jpg

... two records from entity data are shown when the boundary figure is clicked anywhere.  Any number of field + value data can be included, and GE will scroll it.  It's possible to include the table of information, but it's up to the driver (KML file creator) to include it.

As for contour labels they could be included as well.  It's just a matter of what form they currently exist as.  The bearing and distances shown in the image is an example and existed as text objects.  However, it's highly likely contours displaying on a TinSurface object could be extracted and parsed to show in the same way.

The content you see was created in KML format by the Map Publish tool in DotSoft's C3DTools, and add-on for Civil3D.  The on-going goal for this function is to accurately represent the CAD drawing in GE (or any KML renderer).

What I'm looking to do currently I have polylines in model space.  These lines if you check properties have names and data associated with them.  How can I seamlessly create the text to label these lines without typing the text manually.  They are parcels.

Hi George,
You can label them by using a >>>Map Annotation Template<<<.

Are these parcels or Parcels? Are they Civil 3D Parcel objects? These would be listed on Prospector, in a Site.

If your objects are simply polylines, convert them to Parcels. Use an appropriate parcel area label style. These will be available for your choice as you create parcels from objects. _AeccCreateParcelFromObjects

Edit the Area Label Style to add more data points for display. Need Area? Perimeter? Those can be added as components in the Area label Style.

I watched the video, but those values are not included after I import the shape file.

Thank you. Yes I know how to create a parcel and how to change the labels associated with a parcel. This is data that is tied to the polyline after it is inserted. It has the parcel name and the owner, etc.

The end result is I will create a KML file that will show these parcel lines labeled with their parcel numbers if possible.

George,
"...those values are not included after I import the shape file."
Are you using MAPIMPORT, being sure to click "Create Object Data"?
Please post your shapefile.

George,
Worked fine this time.
When you use MAPIMPORT be sure to select "Create Object Data". And also "Import polygons as closed polylines".
Your shapefile is a rich source of data!

I've gotten to that point. Now that data that you have highlighted the parcel information. I want that text to appear in the center of the parcel. That's what I'm trying to accomplish. That if you export a kml file that you will see the parcel name when you zoom in to the parcel in Google Earth
