Coordinates Grid on Map Area

Anonymous
Not applicable

Dear all,

I have some mrsid files I need to work with on Civil 3D (2016).
Each mrsid file contains it's georeference and for each image/map I have 2 files.
- .sid which is the image/map
- .sdw which contains the geolocalization for the image

I was abble to add the mrsid image file onto Civil 3D and already found how to add a coordinate grid using the layer view.
(defined coordinate system / add a Reference System on layout view under Layout Tools Menu)

The maps have been made using Camacupa Datum and are on 1:100.000 scale.

My actual problem:
My problem is that I do not need the full map itself. I just need to work with a specific area of the map and want to add the coordinates on this area.

I cannot find a way to "cut" or "select" the desired area in order to work with, and add the reference system on this smaller area of the map.
I have tried to add new viewports and select only the desired area but on every viewport I create, the full map is shown.

Is there anyway I can select just an area of the map to work with under Reference System in order to add the coordinates grid?

Thank you very much

Paulo

This will do what you need in paperspace.

Paulo,

I cannot find a way to "cut" or "select" the desired area..."

In C3D I don't know a way. But in the free QGIS you can clip an image to a Polygon Shape. LizardTech (inventor of MrSID format) has a free GeoViewer that might also be able to clip the image.

Dear Dave,

Thank you for your reply.

I don't really want to cut an area on the map, what I really want is to choose an area from the map and add the coodinates grid on this area.

Everytime I add the coordinates grip to the image, Civil 3D is considering always the center of the map and I want to add this grid on a diferent area and not the center of the map.

I do not want to use the full map with coordinates. I want to use a portion of the map and add the coordinates on this portion.

Thank you once again

Regards

Paulo

Dear rl_jackson,

Thank you for your reply.

I think "paperspace" is "layout"? Is that correct?

I am actually using Reference System option under layout view, as per image you posted, but the problem I am facing is that Civil 3D always considers the center of the map no matter the scale I use.

What I want to do is to add the coordinate grid on a specific area on the map. A smaller area other than the full map.

Perhaps when you refer "paperspace" you're talking on a diferent approach other that layout view?

Awaiting for your reply

Best regards

"What I want to do is to add the coordinate grid on a specific area on the map."

I'm lost now. How about a Screen Shot showing the problem and a little more information on what you'd like to see.

Dear Dave,

Thank you for your answer and I am sorry for my late comment.

I am very sorry for my English. Perhaps I am unable to explain exactly what
I want.
Imagine a huge map representing a big area from which you only want to work
on a smaller area on the map (not the full map itself).

This is exactly what I want.

Attached I send you a .png (image1.png) file with a sample of what I want.
>From the full map, I just want to work with a smaller area, for instance,
the area market with a square.

Also, I attach 2 additional files.
- A .sid file (a map sample);
- A .sdw file (the coordinates of themap)

Awaiting for your answer.

Regards

Paulo,

"...on every viewport I create, the full map is shown."

By default the Layout uses the full map size, but you can change the size and scale of the Viewport. I changed "Paper" to "Model" and zoomed with my scroll wheel. The Reference System Grid will change when you click it back to "Paper".

Dear Dave,

Thank you very much for your answer. You're great.

You solved my problem and based on your support I was abble to work with coordinates on any area of the map.

Thank you once again

I think you need to adjust your viewport as per area of interest.
