Converting different data types into dwg

Hello everyone!

Is there a possibility to convert .GDE, .GRD, .GRF, .VEF, .VEG, .VGE data into Civil 3D (dwg).

Last time I had .XYZ data and I used ReCap to get .DWG format. Is there maybe an option to do something similar with this types of data too?

Thanks

I suspect those are GIS data? If so the the GIS program can probably save to a usable format.

Some of those extensions look proprietary. Do you know what software generated them? GRD could be a grid file and I believe QGIS could read it. But it might not be the standard gid format. With only 3 letters for an extension. There can be differences between files with the extension.

This site https://www.lgl-bw.de/unsere-themen/Produkte/Geodaten/Laserscandaten/

mentions all the formats. But other than showing them to be Airborne Laser Scans it doesn't give much of a clue.

I only recognize .GRD, which may be:

  • Carlson SurvCADD Grid (*.grd)
  • Surfer Ascii/Binary Grid (*.grd)

So you're dealing with LiDAR and you have also used Recap.

You have been provided with classified points for ground and vegetation, correct? I'm guessing you have differennt classes for ground and vegetation. Pavement vs grass? Low bushes vs. high trees? If this is true, you can try this.....

Instead of using Recap to 'convert' to dwg format, use Recap and perform a Save As to .rcp format. Then back in C3D, go to Insert Tab=>Point Cloud Panel=>Attach button=>Browse to and attach your .rcp.

After a few seconds (or minutes) you'll have your rcp in modelspace. Next, select your newly inserted rcp file and you'll get a 'contextual ribbon' pretaining to your rcp. Go to Visualization Panel=>Classification button. See image below.
