Civil3D 2020 system requirements

We are looking at upgrading from 2018 to 2020 Civil3D and I am wondering if anyone has suggested real world system requirements. I know there are suggested and additional requirements on the website but the way I understand it is that information is minimum requirements and not necessarily what works well in actual project files. I have to battle IT and have justification for anything over what's on the Autodesk website, and help or suggestions are appreciated.

Autodesk has an article on system requirement for Civil 3D 2020. 

I think following system should be good. 

• Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit only), 8.1 (64-bit only), or 7 SP1 (64-bit only)
• Processor: 2.5 GHz (3+ GHz recommended or faster)
• Memory: 16 GB (32GB recommended)
• Disk space: 6.0 GB (does not include installation package size) 
• Display: 1920 x 1080 resolution with True Color, 128 MB VRAM or greater

Autodesk says Windows 10 must be version 1803 or higher for Civil 3D 2020. I've found that Civil 3D 2020 will install on earlier versions of Windows 10. So what is the reason that 1803 is officially required?

I would advise you or your IT to thoroughly research and investigate the bugs before making the jump.

There is a serious one in 2020 that has yet to be resolved that is causing save and autosave to take minutes instead of seconds.

But to answer your original question, it all depends on the scale or size of what you are working on.  If you can provide some insight, I'm sure it will be easy for everyone to make recommendations.

If you can run C3D 2018, you can run 2020.

Even after installing 2020, keep your 2018 installation until you get your kinks worked out with 2020.

Thinking of ways how you might get approved for some nice hardware... Does your company do any 3D rendering (like Lumion)? Preliminary design with InfraWorks? Do you have a laptop that is thermally throttling down all the time because of dust buildup in the heatsink fins that require regular cleaning? Lol.

So what's the reasoning behind not to have your Win10 fully updated? I'm curious.

If you care to search this forum, you will find several problems with Windows 10 that hopefully are solved with the noted upgrade.  Just because Civil 3D installed doesn't necessarily make it OK.  I am currently on Windows 10 ~ 1909.
