Civil 3D Update 2018.3 - Has Issues

The update that was released this week, 2018.3, has some issues. Same issue that was fixed in an earlier release by replacing the AeccLand.dbx file. Weird anomalies in the profile...

We have the same situation showing up in 2018.2 with the FG PI Markers showing up all over the place when we use the create sheets. They also appear when you create split profile with out plan production.

What was fixed in the 2018.3 ?

2018.2 in use

I think it was 2017 that first exhibited those as ghosts in profile views that did not show the whole profile. I haven't noticed them in 2109 and hope they are only ghosts (on screen and annoying, but don't print and cant be gripped) in 2018.3.

Autodesk Support stated to me that this issue is already on Radar and development team is working on a hotfix.

I cannot see the issue with profile view.  But I can confirm the Pipe Centerline from an XREFed drawing uses the layer properties that the XREF resides on and not the properties of the layer that it is supposed to.  This bug seems similar to the ongoing bugs in 2018 - 2018.2.

I also noticed that Layer 0 from the XREF takes on the XREF layer's properties.  I checked 2018.2 and it seemed to do it as well.

It looks like the centerline for a pipestyle takes on the plot style of the XREF layer, than uses the color of the XREF Layer for display on the screen, but plots with the color of the correct layer. So if you set the plot style on both to black you might not notice it, but if the plot style is  Color, then on the screen is shows you the color of the XREF layer, but plots the color of the layer the pipe is on.  If you want to screen the pipe, you have to change the plotstyle of the XREF layer to get the center to screen, and then you have to change the layer the object is on to screen the outer wall lines.  If you have existing and a proposed pipe networks and only want to screen the existing, you do not seem to be able to.

But we should all be happy because they added some more features in the service pack. :-{) Personally I would prefer Service Packs did not contain new features and "enhancements". They have enough bugs to fix to make any SP a good idea, but the "enhancements" just seem to add more bugs.

----

In the above XREF layer refers to the layer the XREF is on, and not a layer in the xref dwg itself.

I thought that they had a Hot Fix between .1 and .2 that fixed most of these bugs.  Did they just forget to include it? Or did they break it some more?

Autodesk has a new hotfix for the Profile problem.

  1. Close AutoCAD Civil 3D 2018
  2. Go to C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2018
  3. Rename the existing AeccLand.dbx to AeccLand.dbx.OLD
  4. Download AeccLand.zip file from within this article
  5. Extract the AeccLand.dbx file after downloading
  6. Copy/Paste the attached AeccLand.dbx into the folder C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2018
  7. Restart Civil 3D 2018

Zip file is attached.

Image posted has small error. The Plot Style for the XREF layer is Color not 60%Screen.

If I cannot duplicate the floating PVI issue in profiles should I still replace the AeccLand.dbx.  Does it fix any of the other issues created by this Service Pack.  I still do not understand how a service pack would cause issues, the point of a service pack is to fix issues, not add features and certainly ... NOT ADD NEW BUGS...  Service Packs should go by the main rule of do no harm. Fix what you can, but do not break anything should be a main guiding rule for service packs.

I wouldn't have posted that hotfix yet. I sent in to support that once the hotfix is applied, there is not a lag in opening files.

I think that was one of the original bugs of 2018, the files bigger and more lag then needed.  Lets bring them all back for a party...

I just got this hotfix from Autodesk support for the issues with the 2018.3 update.  So if you are having problems after loading that update you will need this hotfix.  We tried the old one since the problem was the same and it didn't fix the problem.  However this one is a new hotfix for the 2018.3 version and should fix your problem.

Apparently the issue I was seeing was caused the linetype my company had set in the style display for the centerline of the pipe. When I reload the linetype, the issue (pipe style using the wrong layer for plotstyle) goes away.  Kudos to Winston Pagliaro, Autodesk Customer Support for spotting that.  I do wonder if all of the pipe centerline plotting issues, tickets, fixes, wasted time I have spent for the last year or more on this was all because of a bad linetype definition in the template...  Not sure why a bad linetype definition would make it plot with another layers plotstyle.

Since the pipe plotting issue turned out to be a non-issue, I am continuing testing of 2018.3 for company rollout. I have not been able to duplicate the anomalies appearing in the profile views. Do you have any specifics on when or what makes them appear? Only in XREFs of profile views? or was it all the time for you?  Thank you...

April's C3D Problem 1.jpg

The issue with the 2018.3 update we had was when you have a split profile view the profile PVI markers would display beyond the end of the view and not in the proper place with the view.  Loading the Hot Fix took care of the issue.

So...where do we stand on sp3 - has it been pulled from the shelves, fixed or made available to the general Cadd Community?

I it working. We are using.. You just have to do the usual hot fixes.  If you use pipe networks and dref them you will need this one...
