AutoCAD Civil 3d 2015 Computer Specs

I am currently using a Dell Precision M4800 Laptop - Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4800MQ CPU @2.70GHz 16GB RAM

I am using C3D 2015 and when grading large area (200+ AC) I constantly crash.

What upgrades can I make to increase speed and functionality? Will upgrades even help, or is CAD the problem?

Hardware should be sufficient, and laptops are notoriously hard to upgrade due to the small size. That means most gains will come from your work process and data management practices.
