Annotate a property line with the forward and reverse bearing

We have a label style that lists bearing and distance for a given poly line being used as a property line.  Frequently, on a subdivision map that line need to be annotated on both sides because it is a part of Lot 1 on the left and Lot 2 on the right.  So:

Lot 1 polyline might be S 89° 14' 32" E -> 125'  and on the opposite side of the line,

Lot 2 would show N 89° 14' 32" -> 125'.

Our current label style is dependent on the direction of the polyline.  So we get one bearing fine, but the second one we draw the reverse line, annotate it, explode the label and then delete the polyline. We delete the poly line because otherwise it shows double thick with our print ctb (which isn't something were going to get into changing to solve this)

The issue is the exploded dimension is no longer annotative, so if the line changes we wouldn't know it, which is obviously a great way to accidentally introduce and error in a map.

We can't figure out how to create a label style that will annotate both sides of the line.  Any ideas?

It seems that you should be able to handle this with an expression, but I don't know how to go about it.

@tcorey , @Jeff_M , @Pointdump, @rl_jackson @MMcCall402 and some others may know.

You can put your extra 'dummy' line on a not plotting layer (defpoints or one you create) so the second label can stay dynamic.

The no plot layer is a good idea.

You can do this without a second 'dummy' line or an expression.

Label the line twice with the label style you already have. Select one of the labels with the left mouse button and then press the right button. The menu that comes up has a selection to Flip the label to the other side of the line and another selection to reverse the direction of the label.  Its a two step process but its very simple.

This works on multiple labels at once also.
