Alignment Superelevation Manual Station Labels

There is a problem creating alignment superelevation critical point labels at manual stations in C3D 2016, the problem was present also in previous releases.

Labels are placed only in stations which are named exactly "Manual station".

All other manual stations are ignored, which's station name is numbered automatically, please see attached files.

Has anyone came across this as well, maybe there's a workaround?

I agree with you.

The issue is that there is just one  prefix for Manual SuperElevation Critical Station Type.

Civil 3D doesn´t take into account the (name/description) of your Manual SuperElevationCriticalStation, only the prefix...

In the abbreviations tab:

http://help.autodesk.com/view/CIV3D/2015/ENU/?guid=GUID-8124907A-15AA-4867-9270-430EE34E6C7D

In The Superelevation group:

for "Manual" abrreviation, Civil 3D should have a checkbox = "use SuperElevationCriticalStation Name", to override the abbreviation prefix.

Hi,

The problem is not the abbreviation value, I don't want to write the station name to the label, but just the pavement cross slope value at the manual superelevation stations, I do not use station name at the particular label (see the attachment). I just need the labels to be placed.

As a workaround I could now place the labels, when used right click + "Assign Critical Station" (begin normal crown, begin normal shoulder etc) to every manual station (every element can be used once - as i do not use automatic SE calculation here). So this way the number of labeled manual stations can be 13 (when one "Manual station" is used as well) 🙂

Yeah, and if you need more than 13 per Transition Region, you need to create another User-Defined Curve, even it's not curved anymore.

Also there is a problem if you assign something twice by accident... it can't be unassigned, just UNDO works.

An additional remark, alignment start and end can be labeled as SE criticval points as well, if your slopes are defined in those stations. So there's a possibility to label 15 manual SE points per alignment if the alignment consists of single line.

We don't need all that hassle, Autodesk please, let us label manual superelevation points regardless of the manual station name 🙂

Hi Robert,

Can you please explain how you labeled it like that? Are you creating separate label styles for each? Also, how did you work around having more than one type of SE, i.e. 2 Begin Normal Crowns, 2 Begin Full Super? Thanks.

Hi,

You need to change manual stations to superelevation critical stations, see Clipboard01.

I use one label type for all SE points, just tick to label all the critical points, see Clipboard02.

Hi Robert, thanks for the reply. I have assigned my manual stations to critical stations but what happens when you have more than one type of critical station? On mine, it will name the second critical station with a (1), (2), etc. behind it and then won't label it on my alignment. Also, it appears I need to do some work on my SE styles to get it to look like I want. Thanks.

Hi, would you printscreen the SE tabular editor to understand your issue better.

I don't think it is possible, that critical stations are indexed "begin normal crown (2)" etc. Each each exposition of a "curve" should get indexed independently, not?!

Hi Robert, I think I figured it out. I just had to create a few different User Defined Curves. My alignment is mostly a straight shot with minor curves, so I'm not using the SE for banking corners. I'm mainly using it to get storm water off the roadway or at intersections where the connecting roadway is sloped one way or the other. The first attachment shows a couple spots with manual stations - Manual station (7) is at the start of the alignment, which I don't really want to label, so it wasn't a big deal. The second attachment is where I created the user defined curves for a different alignment and everything seemed to label correctly. Thanks.
