2019 Infrastructure Parts Editor CRASHING

Hello,

I'm trying to create new drainage structures using inventor and Infrastructure Part Editor.

When i'm trying to edit the part characteristic of  "surface structures", IPE keep crashing.

The crash is only occuring when i want to edit the "surface structures" but IPE still work for "underground structures" and the "crates or covers". Does someone know how to make it work?  Thank you

@Anonymous ,

Welcome to the Civil 3D forum community, I see that you are new to the community, and want to say that I hope you find all of the answers to your questions. I see you are experiencing an issue with Infastructure Parts Editor while editing Surface Structures where as other structures seem to work correctly as expected. I wanted to ask for the remainder of the error you are receiving. What is the CER that error returns when submitting the error to the Autodesk Servers. Thanks in advance!

@Anonymous ,

That is great and, alot of information, do you have the CER number that populates it looks like CER_12345678910? It should be in the windows that follow the screens that you are showing in your post.

@Anonymous ,

I don't have an error by that number, I wonder if you would not mind rerunning that software and trying to get it to report that error again making sure it finishes sending it to our servers, if you are worried about security please feel free to PM me your email that you are reporting it with and the new CER# Thanks in advance!

@Anonymous ,

After some testing I could not replicate the issue, I have two suggestions in an attempt to remedy this issue, as I feel that your catalog has been corrupt.

First method to recover a stock IPE catalog:

  1. Shut down all of the software
  2. in Windows explorer browse to the following location C:\Users\<username>\Documents\Autodesk\Kameleon
  3. Once inside that folder - zip all of the contents of that folder into one file and allow it to rename itself to *.zip.
  4. Restart Infrastructure Parts Editor and repeat the surface structure creation (it should automatically rebuild the parts catalog)

The Second Method to try and recover from this:

  1. Try a repair of the civil 3D software in Add/Remove Programs
  2. or do a complete uninstall reinstall of the Civil 3d Software that includes the IPE.

First, please check that you have read-write permissions for the folder where the catalog files are located.

IF you have added your own custom made parts then chances are one of these may be causing you issues.

Removal of the parts catalog data.

As Copper suggested, please browse to the folder below but this time zip it up and delete the Shape template folder in its entirety.

C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\Kameleon\Shape Templates\

Restart IPE, this should force the re-installation of the files from C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Kameleon\LocalLibrary\Parts\Templates\ (master part data folder).

If this does not help, do the same as above for the actual library files.

Delete from UserFolders\UserName\Documents\Autodesk\Kameleon\

The files should be re-installed but if not the originals are kept here: C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\Kameleon\LocalLibrary\Parts and can be manually copied back over.

Now assuming after the above has been done,  IPE now functions. Slowly add your custom parts back one by one until you find the problem part. Keep a record of the first two numbers/letters of the Hexidecimal name generated in IPE (the corresponding files are located in the library folder in a sub-folder named as these first two characters). If you find the issue you can delete this part from the folder rather than the entire library to correct it.

I also recommend when creating your own custom parts create a new library file for the part (only containing the new part). It helps to narrow down problematic parts and debugging custom parts.

To use the part in Civil3d simply export to Civil3d, then look for the created IPE folder and cut/past the Xml and image into the required catalogue location. That way you can mix IPT and original part builder parts together and do not get duplications.

I'm bringing this thread to life because Infrastructure Parts Editor is still broken.

I did step 1 and the program recreated the default catalogues in C:\Users\serm17756\Documents\Autodesk\Kameleon

as it should.

When i create a new library (metric, drainage structures) and create a new surface structure part, select one of the parametric shaps from library ("inlet - Grate (round- round)), click next untill I reach the "part editing tab" the program closes instantly once I click the "add row" button. No waring, and no error-dump.

If I create a new part in the "underground structures" category the program does NOT crash. It only crashes for  new "surface structures" or "grates and covers" parts.

The Kameleon folder is not write-protected as far as i can se (right-clicked it)
