Custom Part Structure with custom connection point(s)

Hello Autodesk and forum,

I would like to create a custom "storage box" structure for use in a sewer network.

I would like this structure to have up to 5 connection points for pipes to be able to connect to it. ... i.e. pipes shouldn't connect to the centre-point of the structure, but instead they should connect to any of the specific 5 points on the walls of the structure.  I want to be able to control the position of these connection points using dimensions when creating the structure in the Part Builder.

Is this even possible?

If so, once having created the custom structure in Part Builder, would my custom parameters that control the position of the 5 connection points be exposed in the API so that i can process a batch of these structures.. placing each one into my drawing and setting the value of its connection point parameters?

This illustrates the kind of structures i would like to connect to - without connecting to the centre of the structure.

Yes, it is possible. I'd look at using Structure Rules to achieve what you are looking for. All of the sample code ships with the product. There is some information in help and I wrote an AU class in 2007 that has some additional information in it. It can be found on the AUGI website forum.

I see I probably need to provide a name for the class. It's Supercalifragilisticexpedaldotions Sewer Design. If you say the name loud enough
you'll always sound precocious
