Add additional headings under surface/label styles

Anonymous
Not applicable

I want to add additional headings under Surface/Labels Styles. The Defaults are Contour, Slope, Spot Elevation and Watershed. I have created several spot elevation tags with slight differences and there are a lot of them. So  either need to create new headings for them or convert them to children labels under a another label Style. I have not found a way to convert a parent to a child and have not found a way to add the additional headings. Any advice would be welcome

I don't think, that there is any way to create your own hierarchy in the labels. The four groups (Contour, Slope, Spot Elevation, Watershed) are only showing what data you can label based on the element you are labeling. Therefore each surface label have to be in one of this groups.

You have to sort your elevation labels by good naming rules.

Thank you for your reply. I figured as much but knowing there are always hidden goodies I thought I would ask. I do have a strict naming convention for the labels they are just numerous and wanted a further way to sort them. Thanks again

@Anonymous ,

Welcome to the Civil 3D community page, I hope that it helps you as much, in answers to your questions, as this post will help others to their questions. I see you are asking if it is possible to add to the surface label styles; being the automatically created ones are indeed Contour, Slope, Spot Elevation, and Watershed.

 @lu_an_jie is correct in that there is not a way to add another type of surface label style heading, but creating a custom surface label style is possible within one of those four groups or types of styles. I think you might want to post that to the Civil 3D Ideas portal to make it a suggested feature. Sure that you can create your own labels, and it was mentioned in the original post that they created a lot of them and looking for some way of organizing them better.  I would like to see an option to put label styles in to a tool palette, so you can select a subset, group and sort them with separators.

They only option now is to create separated templates with subsets of the labels.
