Markups not visible when accessing file via link in B360D Transmittal

After applying & publishing public markups to a drawing within a B360D Review process, we send a B360D Transmittal back to the Vendor.

We discovered that when the Vendor accesses the drawing using the link provided in the B360D Transmittal email (either clicking the Transmittal name, or the "View transmittal" button), the markups do not display.  However, when they access the same file on B360D by navigating through Project Files, they are visible.  The same behavior is true internally for members who apply markups.

Have we configured something incorrectly?  Should not the published public markups be visible no matter how the drawing is accessed on B360D?

Thanks!

I am having the exact same issues. I truly hope that this is a setup done wrong on our side, otherwise it completely defeats the purposes of the entire review workflow, just to get to back to the vendor "without any of the markups".

Hi @Anonymous and @jlane,

Thanks for the feedback.

Firstly, those are as designed behavior of transmittal -- markup panel is disabled when opening a document from transmittal link.

When users open the transmittal link, the opened document is the specific version. If the document version is upgraded, users will not be able to add markups on old document versions.

Secondly, could you please introduce the ideal transmittal workflow from your perspective?

Thanks and best regards,

Hi Jason,

I have to agree with Diego, the current limitation seems to defeat the purpose.  In my opinion, published public markups should be visible to anyone who has been given access to the file.  I thought that's the purpose of specifying public vs. private.

Perhaps the default Transmittal behavior should be that public markups are visible, and private markups are not.

We have fully embraced the use of B360D Reviews, and is working very well... we love it!  But it's an awkward conversation I have to have with each of our 100+ vendors on how they have to navigate to view the markups.  The sooner we can fix this the better!

Thx for hearing us out Jason.

Hi Jason,

Thanks for getting back to us so quickly.

I couldn't agree more with @jlane. Review workflows working very well, but when an external party (i.e. vendor in this case) needs to formally receive the outcome of these reviews, the markups should be there by default.

In our industry is usually common to "stamp" vendor documents with Codes (1-5), ranging form acceptance, to request for revision to full rejection. So ideally, I would like to be able to stamp that on the drawings during the review process (currently I am not), so when the file is transmitted out, not only the vendor is able to visualise the review code through BIM360 Docs, but also to have it "stamped" on the drawings itself.

Hopefully we will see such features soon!

Tkx, Diego.

Yet another half-baked feature of BIM360 . . .

Has anyone figured a "hack" for this?

In Procore I used to receive shop drawings, mark them up and send them back, all tracked by Procore. Just looking to do the same here.

Are other users downloading, making markups in some other app, re-uploading and then transmitting? (ugh, so unbim)

FYI

Tried the Review feature as an alternate.

If the recipient printed the files the markups  will show, if they download they will not.

@Anonymous couple of comments:

- Review workflow: you can markup all dwgs without any issues, publish the markups and they will be there if you print or export the files from BIM360D. If you "download source file", then your markups will not show.

- Transmittal: all the markups done in the step above disappear (no matter if printing, downloading) when you create a transmittal to send the files to another party either internal or external. And this is the main issue this thread is aiming to solve. Hopefully Autodesk will address this very shortly.

Potential workaround is to do all your markups during the review/approval workflow, then export all marked up drawings and do an "old school" transmittal via email to the interested party.

Doing this will completely ignore the transmittal feature in BIM360D though, and that's really what we don't want.

Thanks Diego, I agree.  I come to that same conclusion daily. . . Autodesk needs to fix this.

You mention printing as an option. How does one print multiple sheets from BIM360?

Great question!  Has anyone been able to create a fix or a workaround for this?  We are experiencing the issue.  Thanks!

I have been raising this with Autodesk since the very first day they released the transmittal feature but they haven't taken any action or taken my feedback on board. It's a disater waiting to happen...........

Ok so I guess this is still an ongoing issue

This has been ongoing for over 2 years now!!

Why is Autodesk so slow at incorporating comments into their software.

Hi Jason,

It defeats the whole purpose of sending marked up/ commented documents back to the sender via transmittals and they can't view on via transmittal but can only view in the folder. The recipient of the transmittal should be viewing the marked up document as what it is and not return back to the folder where the marked up documents are saved.

Is there a solution yet?

Thanks.

Has anyone created an Ideas Forum post for this? Still looking for this solution.

Hi!

So, I had similar issues where I couldn't see the published markups at all when in review mode but also I couldn't see "as active" any of the markups on the "markups" list.

After trying everything, what worked for me was to remove my account from the "Members" of the BIM360 documents suite and I had a colleague invite me back in as "project admin".

Now I can see everything as normal and I can also edit or archive (delete is not option) all the markups in the drawings.

SO PLEASE TRY THE ABOVE SOLUTION if nothing else seems to work.

I hope it helps

I mark up the relevant document with the approval outcome, comments and attach mark up (if available)

I then send this  information out to everyone who needs to know including subcontractor using a Review Workflow

This also updates the status in BIM360 at the same time

This is still an issue we're encountering in our 2025 project, has there been any solution?
