In my windows explorer it shows that the link file is "stale". Please advise how to fix it.

I tried to right click and download on the file, then reload in manage links...but didn't work.

Please advise.

Hi @pvillanuevaZR8KY,

Thank you for your participation in our community forums! I understand you have a BIM 360 file showing as "Stale" in your Windows Explorer. Is this when you are accessing BIM 360 files via the Desktop Connector drive? If so, the following article may help: Desktop Connector drive lists local files as either Stale or Not Cached

If this answers your question, please click the "Accept Solution" button so others may benefit from your post. If not, I'm here and happy to answer any questions. If you have any screenshots of the issue, those would be helpful to have. Thanks!

That link does not actually provide a solution, it just details the issue.  How can we get files to automatically sync instead of staying in a stale state?

Edit: What seemed to work is close all applications which use the file in question, run free up space of the file which is staled and sync it again. Worked for me

_____________

Have the same issue, kinda unclear where it comes from, seems like it happens randomly. When I update models, it even shows the same version-number web-based as well as locally, yet it remains in a Stale status.

Any suggestions or solutions on this one Autodesk?

Hello @vedran.jusufovic ,

I understand you would like to understand why files are not automatically syncing in Desktop Connector. The short answer: Desktop Connector is not designed to automatically sync files. See resources below:

If you would like to see different behavior, I recommend posting in the BIM 360 Idea Forum

I hope this helps!

Hi Renata,

Thanks for your quick reply!

Though understanding now the connector doesn't sync automatically, is actual 'clicking' on the file to sync considered automatically as well or is that a bug of some sort?

Hi @vedran.jusufovic

I'm not sure I understand your question. There are two ways to sync a file in a connected drive:

  1. Open the file from the connected drive.
  2. From the connected drive, right-click on the file and select, "Sync."

Please let me know what I'm missing and I'm happy to clarify!

The way i used to fix this was close/kill the desktop connector and then browse to the physical location of the issue and delete the local file. Reconnect and then sync to bring the current version local. I think now, you could "free up space" for that file and then sync to get the current version.

Thanks
Kevin

Why is it not possible to right click on the white Autodesk connector icon and click refresh drives?

True. However, BIM360/ACC is a little bit more than a cloud repository. I'd even say that's not comparing apples to apples.
Thanks
Kevin
