This has happened now on two occasions.

I’ve followed this article twice and both times had to resort to clean uninstall of ALL Autodesk software.
why is this happening?

Hi,

There has been an update for the desktop connector which could be the reason why. Have you checked you have the latest installed?

‘Desktop Connector”?  I’m not familiar with this. Can you provide more info?

The latest Desktop Connector?
do you mean the ‘Autodesk Deskto App’?

Hi,

The BIM 360 Desktop Connecto connects your windows desktop with BIM 360 Docs account. You can download it from here

I am thinking you are still using an earlier version of Revit. Is that correct? Which could be the reason why you are asking about the icon.

The issue has been happening with Revit 2019. As mentioned, I've had two machines now where the BIM 360 Icon dropped off the Revit 200 open dialog. Both machines I had to resort to total re-install of everything Autodesk.

I am still not certain how the desktop connector comes into play here... I have the BIM 360 ICON on my machine, but do not have anything called Desktop Connector installed when looking in Programs and Features.

Is this only part of BIM 360 Docs, or is this integrated into BIM 360 Design Document Management or in the earlier generation Collaboration For Revit?

OK, so the desktop connector provides the user with a connection between your local file and BIM 360 Docs. It installs a link a bit like installing Dropbox or Google drive locally so you can access the files directly from your machine without having to open the web application. Here is a link to the help online which explains this further.

Also when installed you will see you can access your files in Revit using the Recent Files (see below image). It allows you to access the hubs and projects you are a member of.

You won't have an icon within the open window because you then use the desktop connector. Not to say you couldn't put a shortcut on there.

The desktop connector looks like the below image. You can then select files which are in the folders within BIM 360 Docs. It also allows you to upload files directly from your desktop without opening the BIM 360 Docs application through the web browser.

You must install the desktop connector from here it only takes a few minutes to install. It does not come directly with the Revit installation. You will need desktop connector for both BIM 360 docs and design.

I hope the above makes some sense.

Just to add to my previous post if you can check your Autodesk account has the Cloud Models for Revit. It should be assigned.

Hi @mdhutchinson  - Thanks for posting to the BIM 360 forum.  From your description, it seems like you are having an issue within Revit and how you access the cloud workshared model that is hosted on BIM 360.

If the issue is with Revit 2020, the BIM 360 icon has been removed in favor of Revit Home as outlined BIM 360 icon to access cloud workshared models does not appear in the 'File Open' window in Revit 20...

If the issue is that within Revit 2019 the BIM 360 icon is missing, then there is likely a corrupt installation.  The steps would be to follow what you had already linked in your post description.

The behavior itself seems to be related to a Revit Installation/Corruption issue.  If it is still occurring, I would suggest creating a support request through Autodesk Support and selecting Trouble Installing or Activating.

Let us know if you have any questions or comments.  We look forward to your reply.

Does Desktop Connector show up in Programs and Features? ... and if it is installed, then you do not need the BIM 360 Icon in the open dialog box?  Is this correct?
